I held off on making this thread for as long as I could, but it seems that if religious discussion is going to be had here I had better start it.

The first point I would love to mention is the default position, which always seems to stump most people. The default position concerning the existence of God is that he does not exist. It is man who created him, after all. History of religion proves this fact. Not to mention that one needs faith to support his existence when there is no proof of his existence.

Therefore, the burden of proof lies upon the shoulders of the believer. If God exists, it is up to the believer to prove it. Faith is not proof. In fact, the definition of faith is the veritable lack of evidence. Any true believer will state with certainty and knowledge of the fact that all he has is faith, because if there was true evidence for God's existence everyone would believe without question.

By the definition of a God being a supreme being, by default we are not going to be able to understand

Does God exist?, we are not going to be able to understand what God is, or even what "exist" actually means. Or even "Does" for that matter, when, always, when she wants a day off she doesnt just snap her fingers and snap herself out of existance

A little Buddhist there, but how does a goddess snap herself out of existence when she never existed? God exists in the mind of man, but not outside of man's mind.

Thats something only a superior being can understand

How do you know what exists outside the mind of a (hu)man if you are always going to need your mind to understand it. For that one I'll summon a little Henri Pauli - observing something changes the nature of that something itself.

Which would also be the case for a superior being.

So the answer is really; no one can know everything, because that would change the set that is everything - which would now be everything + someone knowing everything, which is now not equal to everything. So for them to know the new set of everything they would need to know everything + they know everything, but not know everything is everything + them knowing everything....which would mean they dont know everything

    Lol

A bit of fun with propositional logic, but thats kind of what the question comes down to, by God do we mean a superior being, or a supreme being that is all knowing. Not that we'll every know the answer to the question can someone know everything?, but if the answer is no. Then God cant know everything, so what use is he then

I would say the default position would be Agnosticism. One cannot know.

You are perfectly correct. If one person stated that he believed in an imaginary being that watched him all the time and spoke to him, and told him that when he died then he could come and live with him in his special cosy safe fluffy place in the clouds....he would be regarded as insane.
But when millions do just this, its okay. In fact it is given another special name. Religion.
Believers will say that "We don't have to prove He exists. We just know."
    Well, safety in numbers eh?
I have no evidence either way. What little I do know about life/space etc, combined with what I do definately know about human gullibility and its scope for delusion it seems highly unlikely that there is a "God" thing.
However, if there is one, and we are like lab rats in a cosmic maze construct, then, so what. I don't care either way.

And lets get this out of the way...if there is a God then this God certainly will not possess petty and stupid human emotions like anger and jealousy

Also I am sure It could think of better ways of communicating "Its" (cannot be of a sex really eh?) intentions and messages than through a bunch of blokes mumbling over books in cold buildings.
    Good night, sleep well!

How would you be able to know what exists (or does not exist) outside of man's mind?

Can you imagine that there are things you cannot even imagine?

That is to say, by definition God is something we can not understand, therefore God must exist because we can not understand him. Or her. Pretty neat and circular.
If by definition, God exists outside of our mind, and if we can not know what exists outside of mind, then we can not know a God that exists outside of our mind, and any claim to do so is ridiculous.

Where did the human family come from?

are you willing to risk your life on your non belief? is your life worth more?

the truth is out there, you just have to earnestly and prayerfully seek it

Pascall's wager, believing is the safer bet. No risk of loss, huge winnings.

My life is worth so much to me that I'm not willing to risk wasting a single additional moment taking religious myths into serious consideration. That's what I found after decades of wasted time in churches and other "places of worship."

So, for your stance that their is no God. You are basically saying the 1st 2 humans appeared out of thin air...or that they came from apes..correct?

That is a common misconception for those who do not want to fathom the idea of actually understanding human evolution. Humans and primates have a common ancestor. Big difference from stating that we evolved from them.

If you consider god to be some magical person in the clouds wielding lightning bolts and meddling in the affairs of humans for sport or pleasure, then likely the god you imagine does not exist. If however, you define god in terms which are based in logic and reasoning then its much less likely for logic and reasoning to be directly at odds with the idea.

It's up to each person to define and understand god for themselves, in their own terms. People who simply learn what to think about god from their parents' religions often miss out on the big picture and are lost in dogma and rules.

Faith and proof are entirely separate issues. Faith has absolutely nothing to do with proof. If a person is convinced that to believe something they must necessarily be proven it, they are not likely to develop faith, but for those who develop faith of their own accord, a lack of proof doesn't have the effect of reducing the faith in the individual.

If there was a logical or reasonable way to define god and his existence, there would not be faith. Since there is no logical or reasonable way to define god and his existence, you obviously have not thought this through very well.

Of course, they are. Tell a person to not touch a bench because there is wet paint on it, and he has to touch it to make sure. Tell the same person that a divine being exists whereby there is no evidence of his existence, and it is believable with no need to seek proof.
