i prefer janis. there is a rawness to janice that grace didnt have IMO....although i do love grace slick as well....except for that little stint with jefferson starship
Having known both personly I favor Janis. Both are good vocalists in their style, but Janis was family to the core and Grace can be above all that. *L*
Two different singing styles so it's hard to compare, but I'd have to go with Janis. She could carry a band all by herself while Grace was just a part of Airplane and Starship. Looking back we see that Grace's career gradually faded and she's happily retired now, and we have to wonder if the same would have happened to Janis. And how did Grace survive while Janis succumbed to her demons? Perhaps because Grace was comfortable being something of an oddball, while Janis desperately wanted to fit in.
JANIS! no competition.....Grace Slick went on to form the worst band on the planet, Jefferson Starship......Janis had soul, grace had a gig....i don't think Slick was nearly as passionate about what she does.....
JANIS....she just had more soul...what can i say? as many others have said, slick went on to form jefferson starship, and they put out that abomination, "we build this city on rock n roll." oh my GOD that was pure shit. i've taken shits that were more interesting than the garbage that starship spewed forth. janis takes it, by far. jefferson airplane as a whole was a great band, but i really agree that grace just had a gig, while janis had a passion...just my opinion
both are good at what they do, Grace always seemed a little monotone tho. I prefer Janis for her ability to use her range
No contest. Janis Joplin was in a different league to any female singer - and IMO, still is - not just Grace Slick.
Janis all the way. No singer, female or not, has ever compared to the raw human soul that Janis possesses. Although Grace had very powerful vocals, it was in a much more "tidied up" kinda way/
i know everybody's saying janis and i agree that janis had that uncomparable soul about her but something about grace slick's voice that like.. embodies the 60's to me. (but i agree that jeff. starship was shitty, i secretly like the song jane though)
