Gran Turino

is an EXCALLENT MOVIE, on eof the best movies i've seen in awhile. I suggest you check it out.

What makes it great, though?

The trailer looks pretty boring.. I have nothing against slow movies but that just looks boring.

I mean, I'll see it anyway since I see everything but just saying.

 

The story is AMAZING, and Clint gives a great performance.

its a very good movie.. the screener has been available online since before the movie was released.. i highly recommend it.

It lives up to it, it refreshing to see a movie with a good story and not all special effects and shitty "star" actors. I also liked the movie Senseless, and i finally got around to watching Sweeny Todd.

 

It was pretty good.

Not as good as Million Dollar Baby. Both movie had an overly dramatic ending which didn't belong with the rest of the film. That's Clint Eastwoods style after years of westerns I suppose.

It was good. Probably top 20 best hollywood films this year. Not that that's saying a whole lot.

It was no Slumdog.

 

Million Dollar Baby was damn overrated.

How good was slumdog? I read the book but haven't seen the movie. I was kinda disappointed by the book but that's only me it seems. Loads of indians I know thought it was real good.

 

Slumdog sucked ass, people had to like it because it was about a minority. it's a trick to get awards because noone is NOT gonna vote for the movie that shows the struggle and triump of a minority, if you did they would be labeled raciest. The movie was NOTHING special...

 

8.7 on IMDb is pretty impressive, though.

 

I wish I had gone out to see that instead of Mall Cop. What a retarded movie.

People gave it an 8.7 you are kidding me? I wonder the taste of this so called net critics, for me a good movie is about how well the story grabs you. Look at Black Snake Moan that movies was AMAZING but since it wasn't a giant blockbuster full of action and "pretty" actors it barely gets recognized.

 

Because it wasn't a story about a boxer who got brain damage and had to be put to sleep by her trainer. It was two stories which with completely disparate narrative structure tied together to give the most dramatic ending possible.

Not one which made snese with the rest of the film.

Gran Torino is much the same. It has two separate narrative which are pasted together rather than woven together.

I thought it was a great movie, the parts that didn't involve the gangsters. I honestly thought the ending was pretty dumb.

But I'm not bitching too much, I payed to watch it in theaters and it's one I didn't regret paying for by any means. Entertaining.

 

It's #34 on the TOP 250.
