so... this might sound insane, but... i don't really care.

i was thinking... since tye-dye stuff is so expensive (about $9.something a "kit" dealy) and i don't think i'm going to get motivated about making my own dyes... i'm gunna take my comfey, already dirt stained gardening shirt and cover it in grass stains. yep, dirty grass stains cuz i love grass stains.

Wow, that is really creative! And you gotta love the green! Post a picture of it when you finish.

i'm sure you already know this, but the grass stains won't stay green for long. green's actually one of the hardest colors to create and have it be permanent because all natural green breaks down to varying shades of yellow and brown.

if u don't wanna buy a tye-dye kit, you can buy the dyes a lot cheaper. it's something simple - go to a craft store, look for the dyes that you add water and sodium something to. get some big thick rubber bands, fold your shirt, role it, twist it, band it. now squirt some dye.
a technique i like; lay out your t-shirt flat, grab a tiny amount of material in about the middle (keeping it flat, still) and twist it, making it your t-shirt a tight circle. leave it flat, all twirled up, and band it, like you were cutting a pizza(3 or 4 rubber bands, the more you use, the more colors u can add). squirt the dye deep into the different pie triangles, for different colored swirlies ;)

Hah groovy! I tried tie-dying a tshirt with mustard/hot sauce/cranberry juice/other staining foods, but when I washed it everything came out but the mustard :S Hmm interesting how it stains clothes you love, but when you WANT it to stain it washes right out! Anywho, thats a rockin' idea, make sure you post pictures and let us know how it turns out!
