This might not be an original thought, maybe someon has already came up with this, probably so. but if so i dont know so here it goes. Its based on the assumption that the buds at the top of the plant, are more resinous and contain more thc content than the buds at the lower part of the plant, because they were exposed to more light during the flowering process. now, this makes me think for one, which is not my main idea. that picking from top to bottom is a good idea, because wouldn't the top buds be more potent faster than the bottom? so just harvest as you go, not all at one time. and my main idea, i have read that picking the buds at different times, like when the trichomes are different colors, they have different amounts of thc. like clear or milky has the most of indica or hybrids, the best times to pick for those, and when it turns amber for sativa, because of the high thc to cbd ratio. and that you can experiemnt with these differnt times for the trichomes to be picked. and when the tirchomes begin to amber that the thc begins to degrade. well if your wanting to pick when its starting to amber for the body high, pick the higher buds, because they have more thc, and if some does degrade then you still have alot more. then pick the lowers in clear or milky, for your heady highs, casue they may have less thc than the higher buds, so you dont really wanna lose any. well it may be a dumb idea, but hey its an idea, any opinions?
"well if your wanting to pick when its starting to amber for the body high, pick the higher buds, because they have more thc, and if some does degrade then you still have alot more." well if you want more of a body high, there is no problem with less thc... "then pick the lowers in clear or milky, for your heady highs, casue they may have less thc than the higher buds, so you dont really wanna lose any." well if your someone who llikes strong head highs, why woudln't you pick the top buds for the best high you can get? damn read over that thought id question it as i go. hum.
As a general rule you want to harvest your buds when about 75% of the hairs have turned color. This is when the THC levels are at a peak high. Also, light deminishes trichomes and the plant replenishes its trichomes at night when the lights are out so the best time to harvest is at the end of the dark cycle or begining of the light cycle. The THC and other pyschoactive chems are contained in the trichomes so harvest when the the color is right and the trichome levels are high. You really only have about a 7-10 day period of peak potency and so it makes better sense to harvest all at once leaving the 2 lower branches and leaves in tact and re-green the plant. After the plant re-greens you can move it into flower again or take clones or both.
Thanks skydriver nice reply and welcome to the board. Your right in saying trichomes are produced at nite but there's another school of thought thats goes like this.... Sunshine especially if its high in uv will give a sunburning effect and like colds nites the plants will produce extra resin to protect its buds from being damage. If your were to harvest as and when each bud reaches the 75 per cent brown your'd end up picking the pop corn buds from the bottom first and working ya way to the top.
Hehe i'm a card aint i. And the moral of the story was. Pick off ya go nowhere buds if ya want the best pos. Re veg good but sometime so SLOW!
I agree with Skydiver for the most part. I do, however, have a couple points for you to consider. 1: I prefer to keep mother plants rather than relying on regreening because you don't have to wait for the plant to revert. Also, if something goes wrong with your grow you have your mother plant in reserve. 2: He is right about peak thc production lasting about 7 days, but if you wait about 15 days (when all the trichomes are milky but not yet brown,) cbd production tops out and that's what gives you a good creeper. Last point: if you want a body high, that tends to come from indicas. The clean head highs are generally pure sativas. (LOTS of experimentation behind that, hehe) Happy growing!
you can clone a plant and get it growin nice in same time i can grow seeds and be sexing them out. Cloning is known stock so you know what ya getting. Re veg plant great 4 seeding dont need a long re veg to get 50-100 seeds. As for the colours of the crystals and all that i know nothing. But nice 1.
thc is thc.. i like ur theory i love hearing peoples theories, especially when i come up with my own when in baked
there are TONS of people that do a staggered harvest..........harvest the ripe tops first, let all the side branches and popcorn buds go another week or two than finish harvesting. I just harvest the whole plant but it's totally reasonable to harvest from the top and work your way down..............i know........the bottom ones look done first but the trichomes don't lie...........i ALWAYS check my trich's before harvest........i look for about a 15-20% amber, 75-70& milky, and 10% clear..........that's just personal preference.......you can harvest when you want for the high you want/like. by the way trichome color and harvesting isn't a theory.........it's a dead on way to guide you in the harvest your looking for.
nice, i agree with your theory based on the evidence of the natural growing conditions of indica in india. the higher up the mountains and the hotter growing conditions, the more thc is produced, so closer to the light source = more thc. now look at ruderalis... small thing that is cold hardy is pretty much good for only hemp
yeah, im not impressed with these autoflowers at all..........totally pointless IMO. Hoping they do better outdoors.......clones from here on out for sure.
I like all the comments you all... haven't checked back here but yeah, nice suprises. i've not really gained the chance to grow yet, getting a job and workin towards my own place before i take on an activity like this... but believe me this info is going to be checked on when that happens!!! thanks.
