Cool. :) Do they practise onstage self-mutilation?

they bring out these 'dolls' representing famous people, and rip them apart, spraying the audience with fake blood
yesterday they killed the new pope, bush, cheney, michael jackson and sharon osbourne

    And they deserved it.

Maniac, the former singer of Mayhem used to cut himself on stage, either using a knife or the barbed wire around his microphone standard. They also have pigs' heads, and on the European Legions concert registration you can even see a machine gun to the side of the stage!

    Mayhem are corporate black metal.

    TROO metal fans despise them....

Where do you get your examplifying tr00 metal fans from?

I agree they haven't fared ill at the suicide of Dead and murder of Euronymous, and yes they did use it to promote themselves and the Norwegian scene. Their stage performance could be called gimmicky and they're still partly commanding their presence because of their turbulent past.

But, De Mysteriis dom Sathanas still stands as a masterpiece and has been extremely influential on most if not all subsequent black metal releases, no matter if they're of the accessible kind or deeply rooted in the underground values. Their later material sounds more mechanical but they've never softened down to get more fans or delivered uninspired or sloppily performed music. So as long as they're making quality stuff I'm really quite forgiving when it comes to making money. Good results deserve a good reward.

    Dude, I was joking.

I have no clue about heavy metal. I just know that a buddy of mine says that a lot of metal fans hate Mayhem ever since they hit the big time.

    I'm IMing him now.

    Lol. :) Got me there.

But no, I don't think that's the case, all black metal fans I know love Mayhem and among them are some pretty tr00 ones.

I fucking love GWAR. Seen them twice, rocked the fuck out of me both times.

    Greatest stage show EVER.

And Mayhem's pretty damn tr00. The whole Dead/Euronymous thing... was sort of gay. And Maniac was just a faggot. But I still dig 'em.

I love Maniac's voice, it's one of the most hateful sounding ever. I've watched a concert registration from just after Wolf's lair abyss and he was fucking grim.

I don't know much about GWAR, I'm guessing listening their studio albums won't do them justice?

Oh, Atilla has his charms... although (at times) he sings like deaf people talk.

When he sings "In the middle of Tranilvania..." in Funeral Fog (or maybe it was anoher song) he sounds like Samson from Samson & Gert. :D

I saw them once and the only thing that sucked is I was at the back of the crowd and I can't see them. So I decided to get as close to the stage as I can to greet my (and YOUR) gallactic masters. I had a blast. Even recieved the flying blood and slime baptism. Right in the mouth too.

I met a guy that grew up with them. I didn't believe him until he showed pictures.

He told me all kinds of stories, but I'm not gonna get into them unless I got a few people willing to listen.
