He's probably my favourite author. I can't stop reading his works and wish with all my heart that I could write like him. He serves horror like classical literature, like Poe. Obviously he's not everyone's cup of tea, because some of his ideas are difficult to grasp, but I will suggest to everyone to try reading him. It's amazing how many people he's influenced who have become respected authors. Stephen King is one of them. HPL's life story is also facinating, if somewhat depressing and it is a crying shame that he never got the attention he deserved for his out of this world writing until many years after his death.
Scorpion, good observation about Poe and Lovecraft. I'd agree about Stephen King, I'd even call him their modern-day equivalent. Or the closest we can get, and someone who treats the genre as a legitimate art-form. Yeah, I love me some H.P.
So far I've read quite a few of his short stories and I'm about to start The Dunwhich Horror,of which I've heard so much about. Which of his stories do you like best?
I haven't read much. I was introduced to his work last semester by my english professor. I've read The Rats in the Walls, The Haunter of the Dark, and The Nameless City. I found a website with all of his short stories and bookmarked it, so I will be reading more! Also, I very much so agree with the comment about Stephen King!
Here is the link to the web site i mentioned, if anyone one would like to check it out! http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/
