i have been using dr bronners since i started my dread journey and at first it was fine but now at the roots most of the sections arnt getting anymore locked because there just stuck together with oil. iv tryed to scrub it out and use less bronners and rinse really good but its still staying. i know its a buildup of oil but i dont know what to do to get the oil out? can anyone help please. it goes hardish when dry but when i pull apart a lil i can feel the oilyness ...ick.

Sounds like it isn't rinsing all the way out....soak it in a hot bath or bowl of water and really swish it around, and skip the soap....then maybe do the deep cleanse if you have mature enough dreads
How often are you washing? You have to slowly wean your self off washing your hair so the oiliness will adjust to only washing every week or 2 or even longer...I wash every 2 weeks or so, at first I was a little greasy but then my scalp adjusted and I never have any problems, even if I go like 1 or 2 months....diet could also be a problem- if you're eating unhealthy foods it will be excreted through your scalp/hair ~ Good luck

oo thanks for the advice kyndmama i dont have very mature dreads yet..only 2 months old..but will do the hot water thing. my diet is pretty good so i dont think thats it...also would using vinegar to wash the stuff with work...to kill all the bactiria and get off the oily stuff?
    hahaha thatd be awse

Try the plain water first~ I'm not into baths much ,but I've found that it helps saturate the scalp and wash out any buildup that a shower can't reach..if that doesn't help then definitely go ahead and use some diluted vinegar to rinse with... and like I said gradually wean your scalp from regular washings...some people wash their hair WAY too much , your body is telling it that it NEEDS the oil in there so it works double time to compensate for the loss~

it can take a while to figure out what works for you personally, as everyone's head is different. I just use regular dandruff shampoo every day at three months or so, and things are dreading just fine as far as I can tell. I tried Neutrogena T/gel and T/sal and both made my head go crazy dry. Lemon juice helped break down some of that flakiness, but I still had a snowstorm whenever I shook my head. I think my hair dreads no matter what I use as long as I don't condition and brush. You'll find the right balance for your hair and scalp, after trying some of these suggestions out.

I believe there is a sticky on here about deep cleansing. I have heard baking soda and tea tree oil work quite well, maybe someone with more experience can weigh in on that?

    i8m awake now
since ya are already using broinners try addind 10-20 drops of thyme oil
if u dont got it look in your spice rack for thume make a tea outta it and add maybe 1/2 cup or so to the broinners
thyme should help regulate the oil production

Well seeing that the deep cleanse is my recipe I'd say that I'm kinda knowledgeable on the subject :)

and I definitely agree that everyone's head (obviously) is different.......
