It's a great story of love. Unfortunately, in Japan it is a story of duty---in this case, duty to one's master. But surely its popularity is because underneath that pre-Confucianist duty-bound persona, there is still a heart beating that feels love in a way that Japan repressed for centuries (though they are rediscovering it today).

I can't watch the video because of this computer, but I know the story well. I have an elementary school textbook from 1938----the story is very prominent in there---the book is a testament to the fascist propaganda that led Japan to follow its emperor into World War II.

But don't let that taint the beauty you see in the story----just consider that a side story from long ago------and this is why: Today that spot is probably one of the more famous spots in Tokyo, even Japan, for boys to meet girls to go on dates----not pick them up----but a meeting spot, because of Hachiko---and its modern meaning towards love. There are even stories and I think some movies of long-lost lovers finding each other there.

Just go out the main exit at Shibuya and you will find the statue very easily-----and many girls in the school uniforms waiting for their dates, and many boys in their uniforms waiting for dates...

When I have time, Tiger, I want to watch that movie you posted here about the dog. Speaking of dogs, i saw this today in my local newspaper and all I felt was rage and I was pissed off.....so sad...:(....the poor dog was wagging its tail even as it died.

    This is sad.....

Here is the link,, too and I will also try to copy and paste it but I am having a difficult time doing that right now, so i will also put the link here. This is going viral, from what I can gather. NYC is quite the distance from me, and it was in our local paper , too....not this paper which i found on the internet just now....

Woman: New York cop killed my dog for no reason

NEW YORK -- A woman's dog was shot to death by a New York police officer, and the devastated woman wants the officer held accountable, CBS New York station WCBS-TV reports.
The Bronx woman said the officer had no reason to open fire. The entire episode was caught on video.
"He was my beloved, and now he's gone," Yvonne Rosado said Thursday.
She relives the moment when her dog, Spike, was killed every time she leaves her apartment.
"It's like a tearing inside that I feel every day when I open that door and I see that in my head, him just lying there twitching," Rosado said.

It happened in the stairwell of Rosado's building in the Fordham section of the Bronx last month, when a neighbor called police for an unrelated issue.
The neighbor said she was talking to officers when Rosado cracked open her own door to see what was going on. Spike, a pit bull, slipped out to investigate.
"When I realized that it was an officer in front of the door, I said, 'He's friendly! He's friendly!'" Rosado said.
Surveillance video shows Spike coming out of the apartment. His tail was wagging as he ran over to the officer, who pulled his weapon and shot him at point-blank range.
"The officer just started backing away, and I thought he was pointing his finger at him, but he pointed the gun and shot," Rosado said. "Everything happened in less than one minute."
Rosado ran out of her apartment in her underwear; it was early in the morning. She tried to comfort the animal while the officers backed down the stairs.
The video was too graphic to show on television, but it was clear that the dog was not instantly killed.
"He was still wagging his tail as he was dying," Rosado said. "It's the worst thing."
Rosado was hysterical and followed the officers.
"I was very emotionally upset," she said.
At that point, she said the officers took her down.
"They jumped on top of me - three men," she said. "I'm in my undergarments in the hallway."
"They pinned her down to the stairs," added neighbor Irma Santiago. "Her whole back was black and blue."
Rosado said the incident has left her traumatized. She has retained attorney David Thompson of the firm Stecklow & Thompson, and she said all she wants now is justice.
"I want the officer to be disciplined for what he did to my beloved because he tore away something, a family member," Rosado said.
The NYPD has not released the name of the officer who fired the shot. The department said the incident is being reviewed by the Force

Hey hippies! Its been a few minutes since I stopped in. I've been doing stuff around the house, but not enough! I will be starting on a spring cleaning rampage this coming week though.

I love my mother...really I do. However, she is a purtee dirty mess. She reminds me of Charlie Brown's Pigpen. We have visitors come from California once a year and everything needs to be as spotless as possible for them (neat-freaks). Of course, it will literally NEVER meet up to their expectations, but I always try so I will be able to say to myself that everything looks ok, and I wouldn't be embarrassed for other people to come visit. (I'd be embarrassed right now.) To be fair, their house (my brother and his spouse) always looks like you could do surgery in any room at any time. good grief not here lol

I've cleaned off the porch (a bigger ordeal that anybody can imagine) and made a place for Princess (the new outside queen as of February) to have her kittens which are due the end of this month or the beginning of April if I have calculated things correctly.

I'm fixing to go outside and walk around and look at the yellow jessamine (cousin of jasmine) blooming as well as any number of other things blossoming. I even saw several of my rogue bulbs that rarely bloom out there showing out! So, I'll need to go tell them how beautiful they look. :)

Over the years I have had a few friends thart sold everything and bought a sail boat and took up a cruising lifestyle. My latest friends to do this didn't sell everything---they are keeping their house and most essentials, but they bought a boat-----I think a 36-footer. And right now they are just taking it out for day trips and what not-----learning the ropes. But they plan to go around the world.

But I had friends that sold everything in the 70's and bought a boat and sailed around the world------though for a while it did not look like they were going to leave Morrocco-------I guess the food and the hash was really good there...

I have always been envious of people doing that. I just sold my 26' MacGregor----it was a nice sailboat. But I didn't sail it for years in part because I didn't feel like putting the mast up... But I sure miss sleeping on it, and in a good wind it got pretty fast...

I would like to go to Nice in, say, late May, and stay till sometime in September, and stay in an apartelle with a hot tub. (I found very few hot tubs in Europe, so I don't even know if I could find one...)

Now I know what everyone is thinking---it's because of all the topless women on the beaches. No that's not it-----I hardly notice them...

I have spent as much as a month there for the summer. But if it was closer to 4 months this is what would happen------the first month would be my wife and I going to the beach, going over to Monaco, doing all the tourist stuff. This time I'd get over to see the museum of one of my favorite French artists, Fragonard----who painted pastoral and similar paintings, often with a story of sexual inuendo encoded into it. We'd go to Marseille and Barcelona. Take Ryan Air into London for shopping trips, museums, and shows. Paris too. Then after sometime of doing that we just settle down and relax for much of the rest of the summer.

Then I can write, and write freely without too much interuption. I would get so much done. The problem is that when we are home, my wife has continuous projects for me to work on----it never ends, or I have to help her clean---and she goes crazy cleaning things (this even happened in the Philippines when we had maids), and there is something always breaking, which needs to be repaired. At home I don't get very much done. Most of my writing is done late at night. When we travel, and we reach a point where we just want to relax that is when I get the most done. The maids come in and clean the hotel room or the apartelle, if something breaks the maintenance guy fixes it. I love to be able to write, and when I get groggy or I get stuck on a point, or simply need a break----I love to go and soak in the hot tub, I come out all refreshed, or work through the problem I have encountered.

And then there is all that incredible food----French food, Mediterranean food, Middle Eastern food, Asian food, seafood... And the fruits are so good there...

And as usual, we could spend every day on the beach for at least an hour or two-----where there are all those topless women----man I love those topless women, all across southern Europe, I love the topless women!!! boobies, boobies, boobies... ;-)
