I'm pretty sure it's not of the same origin, ours is just celebrating the harvest, it has nothing to do with the native Canadians.

massive quantities of hormone filled turkey and bacteria infested stuffing are nothing to be thankful for

Zilla, Thanksgiving is a magical time of the year!

It's that special time of the year when I go alone in the woods and pluck the ripest, juiciest turkey off of the tree and gather stuffing from the bread-fairy! Then go to the great gravy river to get the richest, most seasoned gravy ever made, and then as my family and I eat our 10,000 calorie meal, we thank the great spaghetti monster in the sky for such a bountiful harvest.

Don't you see how beautiful it is, Zilla? :(

canada's thanksgiving doesn't represent colonialism and the rape and pillage of land and native culture?

the harvest? what kind of gay shit is that

american thanksgiving is one of the worst days on our calender. we basically cellebrate the fact that 99% of us americans are simply too stupid to realize that its incredibly racist. it is a day celebrating the fact that we committed genocide on the REAL americans, stole their land and tricket them into teaching us to sew corn.

we all sit around with people that we feel uncomfortable being around for an awkward day of american football and committing gluttony, you know, so that the religious folks can sin for more then just unknowingly being hateful bastards all day.

we lie to ourselves and say it is a time to give thanks for everything we have. our material possessions, our family, our friends, to give thanks for what we love and what we hold dear to us.

if you DO celebrate american thanksgiving, please, please PLEASE think about the so called "indians" or the REAL americans. who are now sitting in some far corner of some state pushed off to the side where nobody really notices them on their reservation which our government was kind enough to give them. and realize that your american friends are sitting where that americans kitchen should be, until our ancestors stole that land and made a holliday to celebrate that success.

anyway if you cant tell i'm not really a fan of how commercialized our holidays have gotten. i think the true meaning of most of them, especially the religious ones and the ones celebrating things such as veterans day (which to most americans cannot even be discussed as to the meaning, just that they will argue with their boss that they deserve to have off that day) and there is always columbus day which is another day we have to celebrate our crimes against mankind who was here first.

thanksgiving is the worst, and i truely think people that celebrate it deserve to have their property stolen from them and have most of their family murdered so they can see what exactly they are celebrating. and no, i dont think that is too harsh.

    anyway sorry for the rant

    Nice

I am Native American My Grandmother is 90% with a little irsh, i know weird. Anyways she lives on the reservation where i go a lot, i have papers that proves i am native American. Dont you love how the government makes us have papers like where some kind of dog to prove we are native.. :(

Next to thanksgiving day, Columbus Day is worse. In fact that bullshit day is tomorrow, and since you ranted i would like to share an article about why Columbus Day should be off our calendar.
As a Native American we do in fact still celebrate Thanksgiving, we just basically give thanks and celebrate being alive. We just turned it around in our own way, every tribe is different though.

Anyways i will post the Columbus day article in off topic thread.

The Canadian one is a lot more boring, though, even if that means not being about raping a culture.

American Thanksgiving; White guys steal food from natives, all that raping gets them hungry so they eat some weird looking birds which are essentially mentally retarded ducks who had sex with a chicken (turkey).

Canadian Thanksgiving; "Weeell, we came all this way from Europe...Let's take a break and eat some of that turkey, eh?"

My home town usually has a big fall fair on the same weekend as Thanksgiving.
    I miss that.

Think we're going to friends tonight for some turkey dinner.
    I'm brining buns and salada.
