Today is a big around my house, as we celebrate Winter Solstice. Celebrate the Sun everyone!!! From now on the sun shines in the sky just a little longer. The shortest darkest day is over. Here is a fitting song, I think Here comes the sun (du dn du du) Here comes the sun And I say It’s alright Little darling It’s been a long cold lonely winter Little darling It seems like years since it’s been here Here comes the sun Here comes the sun And I say It’s alright Little darling The smiles returning to the faces Little darling It seems like years since it’s been here Here comes the sun (du dn du du) Here comes the sun And I say It’s alright Sun, sun, sun, here it comes (four times) Little darling I see the ice is slowly melting Little darling It seems like years since it’s been clear Here comes the sun (du dn du du) Here comes the sun It’s alright Here comes the sun (du du du du) Here comes the sun It’s alright It’s alright
Happy Winter Solstice! What do you do to celebrate the Soltstic? My husband fasts. He's been fasting since midnight last night and will continue with it until midnight tonight.
Well, we started the day waiting for the sunrise.... then we had a big breakfast. We will open gifts and we are also going to be making sun cookies. We also have a few other sunshine crafts that we will be doing and we usually read some solstice stories from the book Circle Round (raising children in goddess traditions)
Pagan classifications Pagan subdivisions coined by Isaac Bonewits [1] Paleo-Paganism: A retronym coined to contrast with "neopaganism", denoting a pagan culture that has not been disrupted by other cultures. The term applies to Hinduism, Shinto, pre-Migration period Germanic paganism as described by Tacitus, and Graeco-Roman religion. Meso-Paganism: A group, which is, or has been, significantly influenced by monotheistic, dualistic, or nontheistic worldviews, but has been able to maintain an independence of religious practices. This includes Native Americans and Australian Aborigine Bushmen, Viking Age Norse paganism, Freemasonry, Rosicrucianism, Theosophy, Spiritualism, as well as Sikhism, and the many Afro-Diasporatic faiths like Haitian Vodou, and Santería. Neo-Paganism: An attempt by modern people to reconnect with nature, pre-Christian religions, or other nature-based spiritual paths. This definition includes such religions as Ásatrú, Neo-Druidism, and Wicca. _______________________________________ Most of the people I come across who embrace "paganism" follow a neo-pagan belief system. I find no fault there..... I think it is wonderful that people discover their spiritual selves....religions are man made...spirituality is divine. I find no fault with anyones religion, I draw the line at anything that "Preaches" that you harm or kill others who do not "believe" as you do. That to me is not a religion but a fanatical belief system based on fear and self-rightousness.. I too celebrate the day.....Happy Birthday MOM...I miss you so much.
Thanks for the post teepi, Being Pagan to us means respecting the Mother (earth) our Goddess and harming NONE,but supporting life in every aspect
That's awesome! I really like those ideas! I've been trying to think of different things to do with my kids in honor of the Solstice because they're definitely not fasting! Sounds like you have a great day!
Thanks mama! Last week we made star salt dough ornaments! I can pm you the recipe for it if you like, its fun and very cheap!! LOL Ours turned out really cool!
Wow, I didn't know it was today, but this works out to be a wonderful coincidence. (or was it? ) This morning I woke up at about 8:00, and looked out my bedroom window, to see a beautiful sunrise starting. So, I threw on some clothes, went outside (I live on a farm, by the way) and walked out to the field with my dog to watch this amazing sunrise. Perfect start to the day, and now I'm glad I did it! Happy Solstice, everyone.
Gorgeous! My 6 year old son was just saying yesterday how he wished there would be a rainbow here (he's my little budding photographer and loves taking nature pics and actually got some awesome rainbow shots a few months ago) but it's freezing cold and we've got snow, so no rainbows for a while.
I love your idea about the sun cookies. We too watched the sun rise, and then fixed breakfast. My daughter is 5 and I am having a hard time thinking of things that she can do to get involved with the Wiccan traditions that my husband & I practice. She spends a lot of time with my parents who are very christian, and although they respect our beliefs, she seems to be getting a little confused between the differnet practices. Thanks for the great ideas.
Great pic of your bike...my husband & I have a 1978 Superglide shovelhead, althugh it's in the shop for some winter rebuilding. I will see if I can find a pic to post later when I get home.
Have a wonderful Solstice everyone! Hooray for the coming of the sun! Now let's all go and have some fun!
