Hi, I bought a Western Digital WD6400 hard drive to use for storage, and got my flatmate to help me install it (As I have no experience with this sort of thing) I'm able to store and use stuff on it fine, however when I turn my computer on something goes wrong and I'm unable to access anything on it, and it says its not formatted. Under computer management it seems to have copied my C Drive

If I use data recovery software like diskdigger I'm able to see and copy some of the files, so I'm not too concerned about lost data (Although it would be a great relief if it could be saved)

Ive tried playing with a program called TestDisk that is supposed to help but have had no success in fixing it, or even knowing what the cause is. So any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

you need to partition it, take your windows xp cd, and partition it.

OR "delete this drive" and "format"

it's unallocated because it's not part of a partition.

I have done that, and everytime I start it up again that partition disappears and i'm left with whats happened in the screenshot. Then if I try to access the drive it says its not formatted. :(

    yer friend did it wrong.

Don't just format. Format only prepares a partition that is already there. Make sure you delete any partitions you have, then create a new partition that is the largest size possible (should be about 600Gb).

    After that, reinstall windows.
