Canadian Prime Minister Stephan Harper has told CBC during an interview that he will be reintroducing extra anti-terror powers for police. These are powers that you do not want police to be having, including the ability to arrest without a warrant if you are a suspect of "terrorism", and "preventative detention" for up to 72 hours. I hate how they umbrella the whole Islamic community into rebellious radicals. Most young Islamic followers do not agree with the radical idea's of those who would choose to carry out terrorists attacks. And how does a judge compell witnesses to testify? It's like having a snitch, they will probably lie just to hear the judge say "good job puppy, you can go on your short leash back into the dangerous world, but we will be here for you."
I dont mind at all if they want to hold terror suspects for 72 hours.. do you even know who or what party introduced and enacted the original terrorism act that Harper wants to renew a small part of ?
This. As much as I dislike Harper, I also dislike the kind rhetoric that is casually tossed around without actually knowing the full deal. It weakens valid arguments against the Harper gov. and it just feeds their conformation bias that those who oppose are just reactionaries with very selective blinders on. We really gotta be better than this, if we want to change any minds.
