I was wondering what you Brits thought of Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliff) going naked in Equus... (a great play!) and if any of you are going to see it. The play opens tonight, and Radcliff will spend 10 minutes completely naked on stage. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=436572&in_page_id=1773&ico=Homepage&icl=TabModule&icc=picbox&ct=5 Here's a preview.
i think every actor should have entitlement to choose what part they do an dont want to play. but i can see its going to cause outcry...as harry potter is such a popular childrens character. maybe it would have been wise to make this move 'after' all the harry potter movies have been released, but hell, maybe the british public should get over their fear of nudity.
you know, i just don't know how the one role will affect the other. it's not like the kids who go see harry potter are going to be dragged to Equus by their parents.
Good question, and I agree about it being his choice. Did anybody compalin when he was effing and blinding in Extras? I can't remember. Either way, it's his career progressing. He can't be "The Kid Who Was Harry Potter" his entire career...we all know what happens to child actors who can't grow out of the roles they had as a youth. Unless J.K. Rowling bows to the inevitable demand and releases a new series of Harry Potter books. I can imagine them now. -Harry Potter Loses His Big V In Hogwarts Car Park -Harry Potter Gets Thrown Out Of College For Not Going To Any Classes And Just Sitting Around Smoking Dope All Day -Harry Potter and The Mystical Dole Queue -Harry Potter Goes To Skegness For A Dirty Weekend Away -Harry Potter Dumps His Wife For A Bird That's Old Enough To Be His Daughter Honestly Would You Believe It He Used To Be Such A Nice Young Man I Blame The Parents
i feel that as an actor who played the role of harry potter, he is no longer beholden to himself but to the metaphysical traditions and therefore it was irresponsible of him to take his clothes off
I think it'll be great for his career. In a few years the Harry Potter franchise will wrap itself up. And he needs to be thinking about what he'll do next. The trouble with being involved in such a huge franchise so early in his career is that he may well get typecast. Just look at Luke Hamil, or Mark Skywalker or whatever his name was. Also, the fate of child stars has rarely been positive. I can only think of a few examples of child stars who have gone on to find mainstream success as an adult. This play will re-position him very deftly, and was a wise move on his part. He has demonstrated not only his diversity as an actor, but also that he can take on mature, adult roles with confidence. I think he'll do very well out of this. His appearance in Extras was another good move on his part, going as far as satirising his own Harry Potter typecast. I see great things from this one....
The Harry Potter series will end sooner or later. Daniel Radcliffe is a good actor and he has matured quickly. I am glad to see him diversify his career. Nudity is art. It doesn't have to be a taboo, unless you want to. He's a handsome young man and I am sure he will be just as normal as any other teenager. I wish I could see the play. I heard good reviews as well.
I just read where he got a "standing ovation" during his nude scene. The audience stood and applauded it too... Sorry, no pic yet...
