Has anyone else seen this movie? I've got a DVD of it from Hong Kong, but I went to see it at the pictures yesterday because I wanted to see it on the big screen. It's that good! It stars Jet Li, Bob Hoskins and Morgan Freeman. If you're a fan of martial arts you will love this film. Those who are familiar with Jet Li movies know very well what he's capable of and in this film he doesn't disapoint. This is a very violent film with amazing stunts. But between the car wrecking, and bone-breaking punches there is a cleverly woven story full of compassion and redemption. Rather than advocating violence, we see a man struggling to get away from it. That isn't surprising when you look at the credits and see that the film was actually written and produced by none other than the great Luc Besson (The Deep Blue, Nikita, Leon, The Fifth Element). The film does exaggerate to the n'th degree, and there are sequences that don't quite make sense, but this can be forgiven by the stylish production and the touching performance of the well chosen cast. This is what movies were meant to be. At last!
God bless you kif! No, I really mean it! I was begining to wonder if everyone just watches mainstream movies in this forum, but now that you mentioned the title difference that explains a lot. Come to think of it 'Unleashed' is probably a better title for marketing the film, but I still prefer 'Danny the Dog'. It's very unusual. This film deserves cult status. What d' you think?
Awe that movie was the shit! I went and saw it like 3 times cuz I werk at our theatre and its free ^^. I heart Jet Li ^^
It could reach cult status, it deserves it, but I think it's going to be one of those sleeper films that not many people see. It definately isnt a typical Jet Li film, but thats what I think made it all the better.
Exactly, kif. I'm sure that if it was really popular, Marlyn would have seen it four times instead of 3. Anyway: At first I thought that the film was made in parts of London, but then Morgan Freeman says about the girl in the supermarket that she's the best in all Glasgow. Did you notice, however, that nobody had a Scotish accent, apart from one of Bob Hoskins' henchmen and even that sounded like a Jordie accent(Newcastle), rather than the deep Glasgow brawl. Still, I'm just picking at details here. The film is orgasm inducing. Anyone who hasn't seen it make a date to do so!
I watched that movie and it really makes you think. I mean all this wonderful action and kungfu work going on but as the movie goes on you start to feel bad when ever there is any violence going on because you know it really isn't what Danny wants to do.
Dickens & Jones!!! Do you realize that we're the only 4 people in this entire forum who have seen this film? I guess we're previleged.
unleashed was fantastic, although I was a bit shitted with the guy in white. you know, the one they spend half the movie making you think is going to give jet lee a run for his money, then gets totally fucked over
You're right, but he was quite creepy. Those scenes where they were fighting in narrow corridors were claustrophobic. I've never seen a fighting sequence like that. I suppose we'll get a lot of smart arse directors with no origionality copying that into their corny action films now and because only a few of us have seen it nobody would know any different.
