Hats damage newly backcombed hair?

I just backcombed my friends hair. He had a question that I wasnt sure of and I was hoping I could get some help answering it. Can hats be worn right after hair is backcombed without damaging the roots or breaking the dreads? If so, how long would you say he should go without wearing hats?

 

i cant imagine hats would do that kind of damage to your hair, if any

 

a hat will only hold down your dreads and prevent you form looking like you've been electricuted. So if you are going for the electricuted look I suggest you remove the hat

Moral of the story... hats won't do any damage (unless its was made scissors)

 

coolio. i just figured that it caused damage cause it bends the dreads downwards, ya know? they naturally stick out giving the sideshow bob look but in this case they get mashed down.

 

that sideshow bob thing is just at the beginning, and in fact you should try to encourage them to start acting normal, cause it looks a little stupid

hats keep ya sane on days when you "have to" look kinda "normal" lol... anyways they do for me...
