I've watched with great interest, the so called health care debate in this country and can not believe just how stupid the people in this country are. There is no doubt about who is financing the negative side of the debate. The insurance companies stand to lose the most. This is why they have poured millions of dollars into an anti-democratic means of disrupting any forum on the issue. The right to protest is not my concern, it's the fact that all these people who are protesting don't realize just who they are representing. They are nothing more than spokes-people for an industry of greed. I have to laugh at all these people who are dead against government run health care, yet are demanding that government doesn't mess with medicare. Bill Maher put it best,"the american people are too stupid to be governed". From all I've been seeing, he couldn't have put it better than that. There is a representative from New York who will introduce a bill that will do away with all government run health care programs. That means, medicare, medicade, and all the insurance that congress has. I am real curious as to how the republicans in congress, who are dead against government run health care, will vote. How would you vote? Are you against government run health care? Is it time to get rid of medicare and all the socialistic programs that this country has? Then there is the issue of killing the elderly. Again, how stupid can people be? Does anyone really believe that reform is designed to do away with the elderly? That fucking nut in Alaska does. It's sad that so many people are no brighter than her. What has happened to common sense in this country? If you are serious about reform, and want to hear the facts, get out there and drown out the mob-mentality of these people and let the insurance companies know that we are all taking back control. We have a chance for real reform, don't let those who represent the insurance companies decide on what's best for you.
Hear hear! I don't know which is more frightening, the fact that the lobbyists and advertisers of an industry as parasitic and destructive as our health insurance industry has so much clout, or that so many of our fellow citizens are gullible enough to fall for their bullshit. Maybe if the members of congress were required to have the same health care the rest of us get, they'd get off their asses and pass some real reform legislation instead of delays, and this lame-ass political posturing they do to channel the health insurance lobbyist funds their way. And any of those sorry sacks of shit who accept funds from the health insurance lobby should have their asses voted out of office, period!
Bill Maher is right about alot of Americans.--Government run healthcare would be a great thing if done 'properly'.I still have my doubts of whether the US can pull off a good system, like the one in France for example or even the UKs NHS.But one thing is for certain, the healthcare insurance industry should be put out of business.
One reason all these for the rich, big business special interest groups still exist and have increased SO MUCH in both numbers and the power they have is because far to many Americans have become so stupid and ignorant. So in a way the 2 go hand in hand.
Yeah, the discourse on this so-called "take over" is driving me nuts. The proposal is not that the governement take over health care, it's that the government provide an option for health insurance. Medicare for all, a program no one ever called socialist before now. If you want to have insurance from someone else, you can. The public option will guarentee everyone the fundamental human right to life guarenteed by the constitution, and hopefully the competition will drive costs down. A perfectly capitalistic idea. Why doesn't everyone think there's something fundamentally wrong with health insurance being a for profit operation? This is peoples' lives we're talking about. No one thinks it's bad that the police and fire departments are paid for by the government/tax dollars, non-profit. It's a good thing if there's a way for people to get health care from someone who can't deny you. The Republicans say that this will "put a bureaucrat between you and your doctor", as if an insurance agent isn't already between you and your doctor. A private insurance agent has a profit motive to deny you service, a public insurance agent considers service your right. Where's the bad part in this? And it's just payment that will be public, the doctors and the hospitals are still private. This is not socialism.
And as far as the word or term 'socialism' goes,as far as I'm concerned it really has lost all meaning. The term has been twisted and distorted so much by the media and others, it really means nothing anymore.
One third of all the money spent on health care in this country goes into the pockets of health insurers. We have the highest level of overhead anywhere, and thus the highest cost of health care, yet we rank something like 39th in quality, it's a joke. Most medical related bankruptcies are incurred by folks who are insured. The capitalist corporate model dictates that they deny medical care, which is short sighted, because denying some procedures in the short term can lead to significantly more serious problems down the line. There's no incentive for them to do better, because they have a collusion, they all get paid too much. A government option would provide a necessary level of competition, and get rid of the dead weight scum that stands in the way of quality affordable health care for everyone. And they've gotta do something about employer connected health insurance, that's like legalized slavery. I'm not big on government bureaucracy, but it beats corporate bureaucracy.
Big/smal who cares. The Constitution states the the ''general Welfare," of (the people? of ) America is one of its purposes. If that doesn't include health, what the hell does welfare mean? Matter of fact, the DoI states we need "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." How does the government aid life if not with concern for health. How can one pursue happiness with medical bills, poor health effecting kids and corporate control of what doctors can or cannot do? I think every citizen owes team Obama the support and ideas necessary to work out the best possible health care. It is congress who is corrupted by all that insurance money. Hold their feet to the fire on this!
According to Andrew Weil, the biggest underlying problem with our state of health care isn't health insurance. It's the expensive way we administer medicine, with fancy drugs and procedures to cure ailments, when we need to focus on prevention instead, starting with a healthy diet and exercise, and seeking holistic remedies while relying on modern medicine only as a last resort. With the rate of obesity what it is in this country, it's no wonder health care is so damned expensive.
And one of ,if not the main problem is that they are bought and paid for by the monied interests and they bow to their wishes.Todays paper here has an article about the probability that the supreme court with it's conservative majority will reverse the law regarding corporate money going to elections. They have way too much influence as it is.I believe the salaries they make is chump change compared to the bucks they get from the insurance,Pharmaceutical, oil and the rest of the lobby-ed -up interests.I'd be willing to bet all those dumb-ass gray-hairs that are disrupting the town hall meetings are still collecting their SS checks and taking medicare. All that money used for elections is mostly used to pay for TV ads.I'd like to know why election coverage can't be free.Or on c-span only. This crap has to change, for it's not a democracy anymore--it's obviously an auction.Reminds me of the rich farmers where I grew up.They holler one of the republican talking points constantly"--get government off our backs"while the hypocritical bastards are cashing the checks they get for crop failures or to let their land lie fallow. They farm the government.Who speaks for the middle class and the poor?50 million people without insurance is on the face of it ,immoral.
Why do doctors prescribe all those pills and procedures? Because the system tells them that's the only way to make a buck. Obesity in this country? Why not tackle obesity in Congress and on Wall St. first, then get back to the working poor on how well the new system works. Screaming obsesity is like blaming the poor for the collapse of Wall St. and Banking.
Kind of like the terms hero, terrorist or free market. Just as meaningless. The joys that marketing brings...
hi. My name is bernie and I have pancreatic cancer, I take 20 pills a day.. and hahahah your paying for them.. fools.. http://www.nypost.com/seven/08242009/news/nationalnews/bernie_dying_in_jail_186175.htm
Have to agree with you on that. At least we elect government servants, we have no control over corporations.
Well I don't begrudge Bernie Madoff his treatment for pancreatic cancer. I am sorry he is suffering from it. I wonder why so many more people today are suffering from it. Are the big Pharma companies researching why so many more people today are stricken with it? Like your phizzy drinks?
As many mentioned lets start by making people lead a healthy lifestyle like oh I dunno get the kids off the couch for starters, And expect the so called leaders of this country to lead by example and get more involved with the communities all the time rather than just election time and do as the people they represent want and force the insurance companies to step up to the pump and quite forcing the healthcare system to but a band-aid on cancer, It just took me 2 years of that before I recently got my back surgery to relieve leg pain 24/7 for a year and 9 mos all I got were more drugs, only cool part of that was I could work under the influence. I for one do not want the government involved since they are already way to involved I am tired of the big brother crap.
I hate this debate. Too much false information from both sides but much more coming from the right wing. I hate the whole "Obama is a socialist, nazi, communist, etc." thing going on. I didn't vote for him nor support a lot of his decisions but come on... I think people are paranoid and are very much sheeple. Of course others would say the same about me so... I support the public option. I support single payer health care.
