HELP: Brand new computer, now running slow..

Discussion in 'Computers and The Internet' started by Deleted member 50876, Nov 24, 2008.

  1. I just purchased what I was told to be one of the best laptops out. HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook. It came with Vista 64-bit, 4gb ram, and Intel processor.

When I first began using this computer it was extremely fast, I was in shock and even being skeptical about Vista, I was ultimately pretty happy.

This week everything went south. I didn't do anything out of the norm, but lately Firefox will run into an error and have to close, among other issues. Mostly pertaining to a SLOW PC.

I ran my Virus scan, and it picks up nothing. Why all of a sudden does this computer seem like it's 10+ years old?

Download AVG and spybot and run those. Also, get your Windows updates.

This is not a hardware/laptop problem. This is a Windows problem.

Yes, that is a preferred method, but only if you know exactly what you're doing. I wouldn't recommend it to a normal user because they don't always know what is good and bad.

Run a program called hijackthis and see if you can spot anything out of the ordinary running.

    Or post it here...

Could be the registry needs a good cleaning out thats normally the number one pc slower especially if you've installed or uninstalled alot of programs laterly. Try using regseeker thats vista compat.

well, hp notebooks suck in general, and plus its the newer 64 bit platform technology which hasnt been around for to long so it probably has a few bugs.
