Alright this problem is starting to become unbearable.

My internet has for a long time been all kinds of fucked up.

    Yet...........it use to work fine.

Like shit won't load, you'll click something, or something will be 1/2 way loaded and just stop forever, and just won't go. Yet if you click new window and pop open a new window, the new window will fire up and load just fine, and it will fix the old window that was stuck.

On top of it my speed has gone to shit, I even just tested it on speedtest to see if it was true or just my frustrated perception, and my download speed even in horrible compared to what it use to be(though my upload speed is apparently still good)

For the record I have one of the quasi latest versions of firefox, and 256mb of ram, which ironically until a few months ago I had 128mb but now the internet works worse now then it was then.(though for the record it was fucked up when i had the 128mb too, and when it is working fine things do download, or at least did, a lot faster)

I just don't get what the problem could be that is just got progressively worse like that, and how it fixes itself when if I open a new window, or how my download speed has become so terrible. I've done nothing major to my computer, in fact I even defragged like 3 weeks ago after uninstalling a game and uploading some CDs. Now being an old computer with only 256mb and DSL, I don't expect lightening fast internet, but I at least expect it to go how it did for years.

    IDEAS! PLEASE!

    *edit*
lol I clicked submit thread button, then went downstairs to get food, came back upstairs, nothing, circle is just going round and round in firefox not doing anything.

Hey MadCap - one of our friends who is an amazing techie said that right now, it's highly unusual, but Internet Explorer is safer than Firefox right now. I was having that same problem and we have business class internet through our providers. I uninstalled Firefox and started using IE again, and he will keep us updated when it switches back (which he said he's sure will be sometime soon). He said Firefox got corrupted? I switched and it's been doing really well since. I hope this helps, if not, sorry : (

    Have a good day man

My internet does the same fuckin thing. I dunno how to fix it, though.
I blame it on all the shit I download to my computer.

Run msconfig, select the services tab and see what all is running on your computer... a good idea is to check the "Hide all Microsoft Services" box. Other than antivirus there shouldn't be much there.

I've done it before and nothing:(

On a side note, another piece of the puzzle, if firefox gets stuck loading something, it makes music playing on windows media player skip. How does this factor in?

Well I clicked that and I have running

Ares chatroom server(which Ares will almost never connect anymore so Ares is useless)
    Google Updater service
    Java quick starter
    Keyboard and Mouse communication service
    NVIDIA driver helper service

Anything horribly bad? I figure turning all of them all off and see what happens is a good bet

    *edit*
apparently except for Keyboard and NVIDIA the other 3 have already been stopped anyways

lol this is the 1st concentrated effort in months I've made to try to fix this and my internet has straight up crashed and rebooted itself twice in the past 15min, now that it normally doesn't do.

Like it knows man, it knows

Could be an issue with your isp (SNET?).. call them and they may be able to furnish an answer.

It's not wireless it's cables, and it can't be the computer it use to work just fine and dandy, and I've doubled my ram since that time.

I've been thinking this, but just with how spastic it can be on how it works and the fact I never actually have to restart the internet, just normally pop open a new window gave me some hope for the modem.

oh and I know, 256 ain't shit, my computer is basically up to a generic 2004 level, but back in April it was working decently with 128, the internet couldn't have changed that much since then.
