Abryn's been a little cranky and tired all day and her nose is a little runny and it sounds like it's a little tough to swallow. I have a sore throat that I can tell is going to get pretty bad. I have lots of experience with sore throats...I used to get strep all the time, about once every two years. Is there anything we should do or that I should give her to help? I don't want to give her medicine. is there anything else that I can do?

Slippery Elm will help a sore throat.. I know there are a lot of cough/cold syrups which are holistic and herbal. Some you can get from mountain rose herbs (don't have their website offhand). I think most of them contain elder and cherry (bark?). Things to increase the immune system would be nice too, vit. C etc.

well she woke up early this morning upset and she coughed up some mucus and my throat is pretty swollen. i wish there was someplace near here that sold holistic and herbal stuff...the nearest city that does is 45 minutes away and I can't drive

I think breastfeed alot... I'm sorry I can't give you a better solution but let her stay on you as long and as much as possible. It has things in it to help her immune system. Every time one of my kids got sick all they'd want was to breastfeed. Its comforting. :) btw this is earthy mama, sorry... I just realized hubby logged me out again and didn't log off his self. :p men!

yep, bf as much as she'll let you. up your water, vit c, garlis and echin intake as it'll pass through your system and get to the babe. keep that snot sucker on hand too so she stays clear enough to nurse.

ok thanks. she's rolling around the floor lke crazy now, not seeming to mind being sick too much. she woke up crying just miserable, though. and as soon as I picked her up to change her diaper, she fell asleep in my arms! so sweet. :) I miss her newborn days when that would happen more often. Today's definitely gonna be a sleep-in. in bed all day. I'm so fortunate to be able to do that with her.

so what about garlic? I don't have echinacea, but I do have an orange and some orange juice. and I'm sure other vitamin C holders. what's up with the garlic though, that's good for bein sick, too? I have uh...garlic powder? maybe I'll make a grilled cheese garlic sandwich Mmm...

next time you go to the store, just pick up a bottle of vit c. you can take up to 5000 millegrams a day and pick up some echinacea, without goldenseal though. read the lable, mine says you can take up to 6 a day. i always keep fresh garlic on hand to cook with :)
