I keep reading posts on here about people being so natural and out there and I want to be there! So, here's my situation. Please read and advise! - I'm in the military right now. No flames, please! Actually, being stationed in CA is what got me interested in the hippie life in the first place. I have two years left in, unless I get preggers, then I'll begin training to be a midwife. - I try to eat all-natural, but I'm having trouble finding whole foods that fit into my budget. - I recycle, but I want to simplify and get rid of all the excess junk I've accumulated. - I practice natural parenting as much as possible - cloth dipes, no circ, breastfeeding, cosleeping, attachment parenting, no vax, etc. - I'm Pagan, but not actively involvedin my local Pagan community. - I'm living in the city right now (ugh!) but planning on buying a house in the country once I'm out of the military. Does anyone have any tips for things I can do to make my life more down-to-earth and natural? I don't know if that question really makes any sense... What I dream of is having a big house in the country where I can walk around naked outside, eat all-natural foods, swim naked in the creek, perform skyclad rituals outdoors, and catch babies. Know what I mean? Sorry bout the rambling...
well leaving the military might be a start. i hate to say this but if you want anything other than being dirt poor and just traveling around all your life, then you will have to get a job. maybe you can find some where cool to work, a co-op, head shop, gardening store, ect. check out some communes, that might be a good way to get into farming. when your in the army though, there isnt much you can do, good luck.
Did you read my post? I'm getting out of the military when my enlistment's up in two years - it's not like I can just quit. Then I'm going to begin training as a midwife. And BTW, I'm going to be making $55,000 next year, plus my husband's salary. That's hardly dirt poor. I have nothing against the military - it's a great living and I'm glad I did it, but it's not the career for me.
It sounds like you're doing a pretty good job at being a " hippie" to me. It may take a while, but just save your money and get your dream house in the country.
Stay in the city, talk the talk, walk the walk, take xtc, have sex with random people, drive a scooter, don't listen to the extablishment, listen to some smooth jazz.
I don't know where the idea came from that you can't be a "hippe" and have a government job. Some of us cultivate that wonderful, peaceful, nature-loving side of ourselves but have to reconcile it with the fact that we're pulled in the direction of a conservative job. That doesn't mean you aren't a "hippie." Unless we have some ultimate judgement day and set down strict rules as to what makes a person a hippie. And in that case, I wouldn't want to be a part of it.
tune in, turn on, drop out. dropping out means not just dropping out of school but of the society. you can live wherever you please (did you not know the hippies are known for living in San Francisco and parts of NYC?). but i'm sorry, the military is the least hippie thing I can think of. If you support it, than you support the man. and you shouldnt try to be hippie. you either are or you're not.
what to do is get a haircut, go outside for a walk of 4.35 kilometers, then go home with a blade of grass/
*sigh* I thought here of anywhere I'd get some support and real advice. Instead, all I get is judgment about my job. You think I like being in the military? But it has done wonderful things for my life and it's because of my time in CA that I discovered a more natural lifestyle. I signed a contract and I've got two years left on it and there's nothing I can do about that. I have stated twice that I plan on getting out of the military when my enlistment's up and being a midwife. Until that happens, I'M STUCK! Flaming me about my job is not exactly helpful, people.
well dont try and become a lifestyle, make choices as they come because its what you want, dont bother with all the bullshit of 'becoming a hippy'
thats what i was trying to show with my nonsense post, but i dont think she [icked up on it. you cant just do specific things to become yourself.
hi minkajane, you sound cool and i like your spirit it doesn't matter if you're in the military or not... what's important is having loving vibrations and you have that... (don't get too bugged out by goofy replies here... while they are goofy, maybe in some goofy way, some might even be synergistic with the cosmic path you are awakening to) as per the eating organic foods cheaply, have you checked into sprouts? lots of abundance there for a few dollars i myself have chickens (free range) and a big garden and so i am able to meet my food needs inexpensively plus the joys of growing one's own food peace, love and higher consciousness
i wasnt flaming you for your job. i was just stating you cant be both. i'm sorry you were foolish enough to sign up at one point. but unless you come back from the war and start protesting everything about your job. like rambo or some shit. seriously the only advice i'm trying to give is to not TRY TO BE A HIPPIE. if you're into organic food, look into it. if you're into drugs, look into it. into living on a commune, look into it. into whatever, look into it. but dont look into to being a type of person.
The first thing i'm going to say is. I have more respect for minkajane then most of the people who have posted.Shes wanting to change, and she sees that she needs to in order to live a better life. And insted of helping her ya'll get pissy because of her job? sure maybe she shouldn't of joined up but hey thats life isn't it? expericing things? i'm sure she has some exerinces that ya'll will never live and her life is the richer for it.In two years how many of you iwll be able to deliver life, a baby? Heck for some of you in 2 years will be in colloge? or out of school? Her body is most likely in better shape, her mind is most likely able to deal with stress alot better...She's not saying the army is the best thing or a good thing...shes simply asking for help to better her life and all you people can do is bash her about her job? Honestly..I'd think you'd be sympthetic and congratulate her on her journey. My first piece of advice. Don't listen to half these people on this thread. Cause a negative vibe sure ain't "hippy"....I know this and i'm not even a flippn hippy
she's asking how to become a label. her intentions and interests may be right, but her want to be a label is lame. she should want to be her, not some label the media made up in the 60s for a type of person. its great she wants to get into a lot of awesome things. but if fitting the label "hippie" is her goal, than i'm not going to support her. sorry. but here, some positive: thanks for joining the military cause if so many people didnt than we might have had a draft. peace
why do you come to a hippie website and tell people not to be a hippie? and being a hippie isn't about labels... its about shamanic activation of unused dna threads on chromosone strands in the awakening of humanity to its cosmic potential and the army's credo is "be all you can be" and this is the same thing the hippies believe in plus the army and military is doing lots of good in the world helping to spread peace and love... they are really good people in the army and navy and marine and those people who fly the airplanes (forgot what they're called) as they went to help the people who got whacked by the tusnami
i'm not saying dont be a hippie. if thats who someone is, than they should be that. but i dont think trying to be a label is right. i'm not going to respond the military part
