HHS proposed rules will ban gender affirming care

The proposed rules would prohibit all Medicaid and Medicare funding — as well as funding through the federal Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) — for any services at hospitals that provide GAC for trans youth. As the vast majority of health care facilities in the U.S. are dependent upon Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement to keep their doors open, the result will be a de facto ban on gender affirming care nationwide.
