i know you're not supposed to use wax on your dreads, but what about "petrolatum"? is it the same thing? my mom got it for me and said the person at the store told her it was the best thing to use... it doesn't say it's for dreadlocks though. it doesn't say what it is for. it has fragrance, though, and i know that's bad. it's all i've used, and i've used in twice. i think it's been about 2 weeks since i started my dreads. i haven't washed them yet, and some pieces are locking up pretty good already. should i stop using it? also, i plan on bleaching them and dying each one a different color . should i do that now, as soon as possible, or wait until they lock up more?
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo that's the worst thing to put in your hair, if you NEED to use wax, then use Knottyboy or something for dreads, but don't use anything like petrolatum. That stuff is used for afro hair, NO good for dreads. I wouldn't paint if you have all those grossy wax in it, don't think any paint would stick to your waxy hair.
washing your hair is good for your dreads. for a lot of people it even makes them lock up tighter so you might want to do that. and i wouldn't put that stuff in my hair
Yeah petroleum/patroatum is worse than wax. I use Knotty Boy Gel everyone once in a great while. It's great stuff. I would suggest watering it doen first though
if you need product to help locking, use a wax that doesnt have beeswax in it (just cause it says its for dreads, doesnt mean its without this). it causes mold. the other waxes are ok. just read labels. paul mitchell makes some from tea tree. its good. and wash your hair. its people who dont that give dreadies a bad name. seriously, your hair takes more maintence now cause its going to ROT if you never wash it.
