Who are these people? who decides their status should be deemed "Highly respected" ? what makes them "Highly respected" as opposed to just "respected"? what are the rest of us here considered to be if we are not "Highly respected" ?
Some would say you are a "Highly respected" member of this forum For some reason that escapes me at the moment. I suspect who ever said that to provoke this isn't that respected by you. But perhaps is to others. I guess at the end of the day we are all "Highly respected" by somebody. So I am going to say we are all "Highly respected" Who decides this? We all do.
then why use the label at all? doesnt it only serve to put people in classes and divide the membership??
last time i was invitin people to a party..''highly respected''.was not part of the criteria...i save that phrase for choosing a defense lawyer
I never use it. It seems you do not use it. I've only heard one person say it: Aristartle. I imagine who ever did say it they used it to give some credance to something somebody had said...even it might well have been BS. Ask the person who said it to explain why they used it. They might well pass you onto a "Highly respected" member of the forum, however.
to be highly respected here, maybe one shows a 'conditioned' character that can be easily picked out as unique or quite different from the others here... somebody that sticks to their own 'mission statement' consistently. for highly respected, i think its more than just being nice or agreeable, but to disagree and to be not so nice as to never trip over your own views or values for sake of saving face... with that said, i regard you as highly respected hhb. i think others can agree to that and for the above reasons.
if i wanted only one opinion i would have. i feel as a part of this community i would ask ALL members here what their opinion on the phrase was . as for me i see the label as divisive, uppity and out of place for this community. in short,i dont feel its a "hip" phrase or label.
Fair enough. We are not all "hip". To me it, if somebody said it to me, I would take it as a compliment. If it was being used to describe another person, like I should take head of that particular persons opinion...then I'd be sceptical. I guess it is just depends on the context and intent.
I consider myself not just "highly respected", but "ultimate respected". I am probably the most respected poster here.
I respect people that put themselves out there honestly and truthfully, and take the blows that come as a result. Whether that means admitting you like stuff everybody else seems to hate, or whether it's telling somebody they're full of shit when you think they're full of shit. I also respect people who can handle an argument without nitpicking to try and "wear out" the other opponent. Like when somebody brings up the possibility of body snatchers in an anatomy discussion. I have no respect for that lame garbage. That being said, I don't respect many of the people here on any level, but if you want a list of names and reasons, you can have it, if that would clear it up.
I have gained the respect of someone I admire on these forums, so that is enough. Great guy and very wise. But there are other members who respect me too. But I would drop the highly and just say, in general, respect.
Nah, I'm just making things up to sound deep for internet babes. I'm not respected, but I'm not derided either, and I'm okay with that. Maybe that makes me a bit wise. Not much though.
I respect Hotwater and Stinky alot in their roles here. They both seem to bring a real level head to discussions. I need to work on that. I can debate things logically, but than when people aren't being logical back, I get too heated.
