hey yall, this i also posted on the hippies forum too.. ive got this idea from something i read in an older post about a chick who saw some guy on the road with a sign that said smile, and it inspired me. So can you digg this? ive got this idea, buzzin in my head brother, just tappin on my brain..haha anyway what we all do is we all set out a day that we agree on, i was thinking maybe april 19, 419, which is obviously right before 420. We all go somewhere near our homes, somewhere busy, and just make a sign that says smile, or love, or peace, or whatever you can digg, just to brighten peoples day man, because when societies normal boring mundane people, see people like "us" with a sign they expect it to say homeless or spare change or some shit, but this time its gonna be a message of love, not asking for anything but a smile, or something else groovy...... just take an hour, or half hour and go to a mall, or an intersection, show people there is still happiness in this miserable fucked up 9 to 5 world. maybe it will really inspire some people..who knows..maybe we'll hear back about it, maybe it will be on tv, maybe it will turn into an annual event..im down, just seein if yall would join in to help show the world that love exists still, and is FREE. im gonna take a couple hours out of my day and show my love for people.. think about it, it could really touch some people, and could really turn out big, and good! and lovey dovey, just do it!
i give out free smiles and compliments all the time....like this one ugly girl who has no confidence and hides in the corner at my kids karate school...i went out of my way to tell her that i thought she had really nice hair and ever since she's worn her hair the exact same way..... i'm a humanitarian like that i'll comply on your request though, anything that makes me look more insane than I am is a win win for me!!
I think it's a lovely idea. I think I will make some smiles and print them and hand out free smiles to ppl as they pass. Or maybe have a box of smiles and they can pick their own. Perhaps someone might know a person that could use a good smile and take one for them. Yes I see it catching on. I see it nation wide, smiles everywhere and no S&H, absolutely free no hidden fees.
I have a friend who runs a sign that never asks for money, it's either a political sign, something to open awareness, or just something to make folks smile. Me'n'my son used to hand out flowers for a smile in the city; it was always fun. Random Acts of Kindness almost always spark more RAKs. Can every day be a day to help kindness flow instead of it being just one day?
Sure, one only need to get into the habit of doing it and that involves losing the selfishness of thinking only of self. When one realizes it's actually in their best interest to think of others (it sure feels nice to be nice!) that habit of kindness begins. Kindness and selflessness DO have many benefits. For example...I frequent the local market in town. I've become friendly with everyone there and quite a few of the regular customers. I always have a smile and a hello for everyone, help the old folks when needed, bag my own groceries and do the Buddha thing with all. Doesn't take a lot of extra energy and the bennies???.....always smiles for me, free samples, free fruits and veggies that would be tossed. (that's against store rules) or the butcher giving me a little "extra" in my order. Care for others and others will care for you. Love others...SHOW THAT LOVE!!!! Without action is it truly love? OK..OK..enough of the sweet philosophic bull. Just fucking make nice!!!! Zen
Zen, honey, I wasn't actually asking a question, I was only trying to make a point...spreading kindness has always been part of my life even if I do come across as attitutal at times on the web. So, fellow posters, what kind of kindness have you spread today & what was the result? I drove my neighbor to get her car from the mechanic & refused the gas money she offered me. I recieved a hug in return
Last summer a friend and I walked up and down one of the busiest streets in our city with a sign that said "Free Hugs" did this every Tuesday. Got lots of honks, smiles, hugs, people saying "god bless you". It brightened up people's day. Two best parts where when a girl under 10 came running up to us for a hug. And when an older lady said she was just relearnng to trust and hug people and that this really helped. It's a great thing. Google free hugs. It's all over.
That's cool.... Just an fyi....when I get on a roll, there's usually no stopping me. Those who know me understand that while, in person, I'm a man of few words.... get me near a keyboard...look out. HAHA Zen
Free hugs....nice. There is some contention among some Rainbows about hugging. After the GREAT MUD AND LICE gathering (Pa. '99) lots of folks don't hug anyone but their "friends"....shame. Me??? ANY hug offered is accepted with joy (especially Pork Chops' BOOBIE HUGS) Lice are easy to deal with....Oil,salt,cayenne soak. Works every time. FREE HUGS FOR ALL!!! Washed or not! Zen
EVERYDAY!!!!!! Just go out & do it, spread love & happiness! Give hugs, give smiles, hold a door open for someone, pay an extra toll when you drive thru, pay an extra fare when you ride the bus....
haha well yes i try my best everyday to make the world better. however i think an event like this spread around the globe would be nice too. i have friends all over the country at college waiting on the exact date. they're really excited about it. they're makin shirts and giant banners
Kindness usually does spread once started. Oprah named February as Kindness month. I'd say to just name a date you & your friends want to start. Maybe check out this website: www.actsofkindness.org
No way. I would not hold a sign that says free hugs in my town I do not feel like getting Mauled by crack heads, meth heads or drunks for that a matter. And I also don't want lice or scabies!
