I was at a music store, and I picked up a ukulele, and this guy walked past me and said, "Hmm, looks like we have a hippie here."

I asked him what he was talking about and he said, "Well, look at how you're dressed for one thing. And also, you're about to play a ukulele." What the hell? Since when did instruments begin becoming "labeled"?

    Hahaha... this thread... wtf. :D

Anywho... somebody told me the same thing while I was fiddling with a Gibson Dobro and I kind of had the same reaction. I have a strange relationship with slide. :p I always have to keep in mind the fret markers and positions... If I'm playing guitar, I have most of it in my head. People always tell me uke is harder to play than guitar :p. I find anything short scaled difficult to play. My fingers are quite long. I can barely play a mandolin. The only things that are comfortable to play, really, is my les paul and my Guild 12 string. My attack has gotten so quick/hard that if I try to do things like fingerstyle blues, I'll pop strings and snap bridgepins in half. I've only got two whole pins on my Martin. I do quite a bit of rhythm, palm muting, and percussion and I really need to switch to brass because of all the pins I go through.

I always thought it was interesting that hippies played acoustic guitars and not electric. Prolly cuz the acoustics were less expensive and you can take them everywhere?

That's probably the dumbest stereotype I've ever heard.

Hey wait....some of you are confused! Most of the hippies i know, including me, prefer electric guitar over acoustic any day! Yeah man

    i like to play both...

with the acoustic, you can go anywhere you want with it, open your case, play a song, its all good.

with the electric, you have to get an amp, find a place to plug it in, have to get all the cords...but the sound can be amazing! I love to use various effects with my electric, always fun.

btw, arent ukelele's something hawians play? [IMG]
