    Hi People,
I'm looking for a partner/partners to hitchhike across Europe. I plan a low budget tour, from place to place, working at Wwoofs, joining rainbow or other gatherings, aiming to finally reach a no-planning state of mind.
    Who is joining me?

Why is it so Damn Hard to Make The Decision?

I crave for a change, for a fresh start.
After a decade in advertising and digital marketing (yeh yeh tv, google, facebook, blogs, twitter, banners and all this SHIT) I have had enough! I don't find it interesting anymore.

I crave for a change, to reconnect with nature, with the road, with the tau. So why is it so damn hard to make the decision, to take a bag, to hitchhike, to wander from place to place, to get to know new people, new countries?

It's always about the fears, the wishes and the fears.
36 is too old to become a rainbow guy, a hitchhiker.
What people would say? He lost his mind, just throwing it all away...
Should i take my laptop with me?
Will I be back? And then what?

No one is ever too old to do something they want to do!

I guess you are right TipsyGypsy, yet i have a conflict between the Want to Do and the Should Do way of thinking.

There is no 'should do' way of thinking. It's your life and if you want to go travelling then you should go and things will fall into place. Jobs you can always find when you get back.

I used to think I couldn't do things because it wasn't the 'normal' way of doing something. You're supposed to work hard all your life and earn money, but I always wanted to see the world.

As long as I am happy in what I am doing then I know it's the right thing :)

    What's stopping you?

If you have a desire or passion to do something you should follow it. I was in a similar position a few years ago and asked my counselor "this isn't what I'm supposed to do is it?" and I was shocked when he told me to follow my passion, but he was totally right. There isn't a perfect formula for life to follow. I like this quote

"life isnt about following the right path
life is about creating your own path"

    Good luck in your decision.

Hi Monkey Boy thanks for your response. It's quite amazing that all the people i consult with, only project back my fears. I have not found anyone yet to encourage me to follow my passions....that's the reason i'm here. I should follow my passions, I should create my own way. Thanks again :)

I'm off to Finland probably in a couple of months and then I'm going somewhere, although haven't decided where yet!

If you are around, come along :)

Where are you coming from? Will you go to the rainbow gathering?

Yeah, I had the same experience. Everyone I talked to just assumed and encouraged me to follow the normal path. That's why I was so shocked when my counsel suggested something different. Up until then I even felt like I was doing something bad. It made me so happy when I heard my counselor say it because it just fit perfectly with what I felt inside was the right decision.

Thanks for sharing and it's good to meet you.

Well that is one of the plans I have, to go to the gathering and then decide where to go from there.

But, I still haven't fully decided yet.

Check the link in my sig. Doing the same thing starting August with two Hungarian girls and we might be looking for a fourth. Im only going to be with them for the month of August and because of that we want to get around as much as possible. After August Im off on my own and then for Winter Im going to be living in a commune in Germany. After Winter Im going off in search of work, other communes, squats etc..

Im going to have about €100 leaving Ireland. Enough for travel and to feed myself for a few weeks. Going to try and either sell art, busk or offer labour for money/food/shelter. A tent is going to be my home and hitching will be my transport. Did it for a month last year but it wasnt long enough at all.

Were going to be leaving the 1st of August from Ireland though and will be in Calais by the 2nd. If you want to join us that would be no problem. Always looking to meet/travel with new people :cheers2:

Bad.Fish, thank you so much for the offer. I love your route, did the southern part of it, by car two years ago. I guess i will begin in north Netherlands, visiting a friend of mine and than to Finland. The eco-villages or communes sound great.

Anyway, I'll need a few more days to arrange my thoughts.
    Cheers

Thats just the guessed route for August. We dont actually have a plan, the only thing we know for definite is that were going to try and go to the Zurich street parade for the 14th. Apart from that were just going to go to wherever sounds best at the time. The girls are selling jewelry, Im going to sell 10 min sketches of people and the three of us will be busking too.

I was thinking of Finland but that wont be an option until after August. Once its just me it will be a much more open ended path as Ill have all the time I need to go wherever is right. How long are you planning on travelling for?
