alright so i found this bottle/vase thing at the dollar store and im like omg bong. i already know how to drill holes and glass, and im gonna go buy the right drill bits tommorow. the part i need you guys help with is the slide/bowl. i have a butload of screens, and a few of these metal bowl things that you just hook up to stuff for a quick peice, but all that stuff seems more for a shitty on the spot "oh shit no one has a peice??" sort of bong. i was thinking glass? also im not 18, i wish i was cause then i would just go buy a bong slide, or even a bong. so im confined to stuff at hardware stores.... im thinking maybe a glass tube with a screen in it? also it doesnt necesarilly have to slide, but itd be cool if it did. remember with your suggestions that im planning on keeping this bong, and want it to look at least semi professional.... all help is appreciated :)

3 things about that design that make it not really what im looking for:
1: everbody knows how to make that one. personally i started smoking salvia before weed and thats the first thing i smoked salvia out of.
2: aesthetics: like i said, i want this to look professional, not to look like i bought it at a headshop, but good looking enough so people say damn dude you made that???
3: metal bowls: personally i like to smoke with no less than 2 others, and get completely baked. this means smoking several bowls, probably at least a dime if not a dub, all in one sitting. and with my experiance with metal bowls, like i said i have something similar to that in the vid, but a bit bigger, and i make bowls all the time with it, so i have a good amount of experiance with metal, and my experiance is after 2 bowls, perhaps even one, the bowl gets very hot, and stays that way for a good bit of time. also when a metal bowl is hot it tastes beat after 1 or 2 hits.

yeah so ive been doing some research on google and stuff and ive found some sweet pics that people uploaded of their homemade bongs, and i think i might be able to get a real male and female bong stem/bowl and just do this:
first get a vase, like i said the one i found is a buck, some might be a little more, but i highly recomend checking out a dollar store for the vase part. and then you drill a hole in it with a proper glass drill bit, and cement or sodder or whatever the female part in, and you have a bong that actually looks legit, and furthermore you could become quite a good businessman by taking male/female slide parts for about 20$, a 1$ vase, and some drill bits that you only have to buy once, for about 10$, and sell bongs for about 50$. seriously some of the pics i saw looked like legit headshop bongs, like you wouldnt suspect for a minute that they are anything but real legit bongs. I STILL COULD USE A LITTLE ADVICE: what should i use for sealing the female slide part to the vase? in the past ive unsuccesfully used hot glue, cause it melts (duh!) but my friend says craft or wood glue works well, but im wondering what sealent you guys have used really succesfully.

I dont have much of a solution as far as nonmetal bowls go, if you dont know someone 18 that can just buy a slide for ya. But the best idea i can think of would be use a drill bit and seal it to the glass over your hole(super glue, or one of those liquid weld solutions). then use that as the bowl and drill another hole on the other side of the vase as a carb.

You cant drill a hole into a glass bottle...

IT just doesnt work that way.

The glass has to be flat, and completely supported.

What experience did you say you had?

yeah dude you can drill a hole in glass if its thicker. i know that sounds kinda wack but if you do it right (dont press too hard, work up from a very small bit, use bits designed to drill glass) then it wont crack. and ill probably try to get my friend whos 18, but i kinda dont see him much cause hes up in college, to buy me the slide for it. but does anyone know of any sealent that is all good when heated and shit? to attach the female part of the slide to the vase... so i guess it really only has to be heat resistant... maybe that putty you use for holes in walls and stuff?

uhh i said ive had experiance in using metal for bowls, which really has nothing to do with the rest of your post.... and the point of saying that was to point out that i didnt want to use metal for the bowl. i wasnt saying i had experiance with drilling glass, i just know that very carefully it can be done.

Hahahhahahahhaha you guys and your glass and metal bongs. What I use, I dont need those materials, because A BAMBOO BONG is the bong to end all bongs. Making the bong is easy, the hard part is getting it perfect, because you have to use a saw, not a machete. A machete will crack the bamboo, thus leaving leaks in the chamber. The bowl, its also made of bamboo. And as for sealant, I use wax. The wood bowl and stem is good enough of an insulator so that the wax does not melt. And for a bong that I made myself (including killing the bamboo tree myself), it hits much better than a lot of headshop-sold bongs out there. The only downside to using a bamboo bong is that since wood is biodegradable, You can only use a bamboo bong for at the most two years before you start noticing the first signs that it should be thrown away. but still for me, bamboo bongs FTW!

Try a bit of epoxy putty. I don't know why you're having that much trouble with heat, unless you're smoking pot by the metric shitton, but you can get heat resistant epoxy putty, the kind you would use to seal a cracked exhaust manifold, in the paint section of a hardware store, or an auto parts store, for around seven bucks. JB Weld might work, but it's a bit runny.

And, btw, Leftovercrack, the English word "bong" is derived from a Thai word for "bamboo tube" introduced into English in the '70s by American soldiers returning from Southeast Asia. If you were to get into your time machine, go back to Woodstock, and offer Jerry Garcia a bong hit, he would just look at you funny. Maybe thatsthedank lives too far north for bamboo?

haha as a matter of fact i live about as far northeast as it gets for not being canada... anyway my friend has been "borrowing" some chemistry shit from our school, and he says hes gonna make me a sweet bubbler, so im gonna wait and see if that turns out good, but thanks for the advice, and it will probably still be used if the bubbler turns out shitty looking.

That link is talking about drilling through a window, with a glass bottle or vase no support is needed and the best bit is a diamond bit used at a very high RPM. I have made several this way and it can be done in just a few minutes.

Yeah Wanderingturnup, I actually knew that. You are actually the first person here (that ive seen) to know that fact. Congrats bro, you deserve to come here to thailand with a machete, make some beautiful bamboo bongs and bring them back to the states.

Find a rubber stopper that fits for the hole you drill, don't use any sort of glue or anything of that nature.

When you drill glass put tape over the areas you want to drill and then drill through the tape. I prefer masking tape.
