I received a gift card for xmas. It was for a clothing store I had mentioned liking.

I went to spend it today and just in time; that particular location was going out of business.

I tried on lots of clothes because they were deeply discounted.

I spent the gift card ($50) plus $21 of my money and got 7 tops.

If the clothes had been sold at their regular prices, those 7 tops would have cost $264.

What? They're just pretty regular tops.

It's just a little store called "Avenue". Far from upscale.

As you can see why they are going out of business.

I'm a bit of a clotheshorse but I stick to sales and thrift stores. Full priced new clothes are ridiculously overpriced..

    Asset stripping

Early in 2012, United Retail Group, Inc., Avenue's parent company, filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.
Its assets have since been purchased by Versa Capital Management, Inc.
Versa Capital Management Inc. is a private equity firm based in Philadelphia that invests in distressed companies.

well, they charge what people will pay, theoretically. apparently not in this case.

gotta love stores that still sell their gift cards even though they're about to announce that they're going out of business (i know it's just one location in this case, but i also remember a few years ago some entire company that was shutting down pulled the same thing).

I bought some new clothes just a few days ago... It was going on a Red Cross debit card. Prices are crazy and if you shop for price the quality is crap... Used clothes is the way to go. I hope I can salvage some of my clothes from the house.

Walmart has basics for guys like jeans and solid t-shirts, but ladies clothes suck at wal-mart. They are terrible looking - at least here they are.

Once in a blue moon, you can get something really pretty at Wal-Mart. My prettiest and sexiest dresses are all from Wal-Mart, lol. I get my bras there, too. They have some pretty great push-ups for $6 each.

I'll admit that I spend way too much money on clothes and buy things from Eddie Bauer, Free People and REI even though I know they are way too expensive. But I am weak...

Sierra Trading Post has some really good deals though.

For the first time I now live near a Walmart but it will be a cold day in hell before I will even go near it. They completely snuck in even though they know that no one here wants them by applying for a lease in the mall under a fake business name. Fucking bastards. We created a rule that big box stores could no longer build here for a reason but they found a way in regardless.

The cost of some articles, especially if they are more along a fad line is often outrageous. If it is a classic piece then it is far easier to justify the cost.

I have a weakness for clothes so often need and want are very interchangeable. ;)

I am also definitely willing to pay more for clothes if they are from natural fabrics made by people that get paid a decent wage and are made in the US.
