How can you love God? Is it even possible? I believe in God, but he has gone to great lengths (for what reasons, I don't know) to hide himself in this life. I feel extremely guilty to say I don't love God, giver of everything, but I don't love him. Grateful yes, but love? I don't even know him... how can you love someone who you have never known? God gave us everything, but that isn't enough to love someone for, you need a personal relationship to love... but it isn't possible to know God in this life...
Yeah, no one knows what/who God even is...so its like peopel just love the word "God". My guess is everyone who "loves" God with their hearts is just full of it.
Hare Krishna ! Dear Lovesgravity, Thank you for the thread and your thoughts. Your thoughts are very inspiring and they really make me think why I should love God whom I have not seen. At the same time your beautiful words and thoughts (Being a believer and being grateful to God for everything that you have) have given me inexplicable peace and happiness. Although I have not seen you I wonder about you. A man/woman whose words and thoughts are so beautiful what a nice person with a beuatiful mind he/she must be ! Just for this one post of yours I have developed a craving for meeting you, seeing you ! Although I have not seen you, I am sure, I love you. With love, Kumar.
Mystics of all cultures, religions and spiritual paths would disagree. It is believed that it is possible for us to come to know God even in this life.
gdkumar, that is no more believeable than a person who says they love God. you greatly over-exaggerated
If you've ever felt compassion for another, you've known God. If you've ever enjoyed the beauty of a sunrise/sunset/storm/clear sky, you've known God. If you've ever shut off the white noise of everyday life and listened, truly listened to your own soul, you've known God. If you've ever appreciated a piece of music, a work of art, a passage of poetry, you've known God. If you've ever been awestruck observing any of the myriad wonders occuring constantly in the natural world, you've known God. If you've ever been in love, you've known God. Thing is, God is everywhere, and everyone has known God to some extent at some point in their life. The problem is that people don't KNOW that they're getting to know God. God isn't some guy you hang out and have a few beers with...He/She/It/God is omnipresent, a binding spirit, an amorphous abstract, and no human will ever know God in God's entirety, but that doesn't mean God cannot be known at all, appreciated, and, yes, even loved by humans.
God has not tried to hide, in fact God has gone to great effort to reveal his glory to us. Our problem is that we dont recognize it. When we see beautiful dandelion, we don't stop to think of the one who sculpted that delicate flower. When we hear sweet music we dont hear the silence, which is the source of all music. When we bite into a fresh golden apple, we forget the master chef who made it for us. When we look in the mirror we don't recognize that same divinity within us that powers our every moment. The truth is you do love God. Because you love yourself. God is the inner self of all beings and there is nothing more beloved to any creature than their own life, their own self. The truth is that everything you love is divine.
Well it's very simple to love god.... If you have any trouble with this... just change the definitions of the word 'Love' and the word 'God'. For instance, if the word 'love' has the connotation of sexual activity, and 'God' has the connotation of a patriarchal deity who lives in the sky, then it would seem rather impossible (and perhaps a bit awkward) to 'love' 'God'. If we define love as "dutiful respect" and we define God as an "institution" which makes descisions on things such as birth control, human sexuality, etc... then, some of us find it a bit easier to 'love God' - especially when we find others who are willing to do the same. Personally, I think God is whatever you want or need him to be. It is your God given right to decide exactly what God is. You're a fool to take anybody's opinion other than your own. As for loving Him, that should vary from person to person too. Some people like to pray, some like to ignore... As for me, I like to play the piano.
