How do Muslims defend clitorectomies?

Do those Muslims who practice clitorectomies really believe that Allah's perfect creations can be improved upon?

I'm surprised that no one cared to answer back.

I'm a muslim, clitorectomies are acts of ignorance. They are made by uneducated people, usually living in severe poverty. They are believed to affect female's libido, thus decreasing it and helping to keep the girl a virgin "pure".

They are ruled Haram (forbidden) under the Islamic religion. Prophet muhammed did not do this to his daughters.

 

Yet, 96 percent of families surveyed (in Indonesia) reported that their daughters had undergone some form of circumcision by the time they reached 14… a government health survey (in Egypt) showed that 96 percent of the thousands of married, divorced or widowed women interviewed said they had undergone the procedure.

Seems to me absurd to insist that only 4% of Indonesians and Egyptians follow their religious haram. Osama Mohamed el-Moaseri, imam of a mosque in Basyoun, Egypt ,the city near where a 13-year-old girl lived, and died after a cliterectomy said, “This practice has been passed down generation after generation, so it is natural that every person circumcises his daughter.”

 

somewhere: muslims drink, muslims are immodest, muslims eat pork

just like christians and jews and hindus and buddhists, muslims disobey the strictures of their religion

they are people

why should this be a surprise to you?

essentially, these diversions are all cultural matters

And you are the artful dodger. If you can post a link to any reputable source that indicate hindis taoists, jews christians (pick your faith) also practice this inhuman practice, then I will give up the argument

there are people who do this who are not muslim, for example, the masai

Let it be. If they want to do that and the girl in question is willing through faith- how are you to say otherwise.

I mean, you probably participate in plenty of things they don't agree with. It's little wonder that the muslim community might be mad at the world, people keep poking wholes in how they do things

perhaps men should get agitated about the australian aborigines, who do a fairly intense male version, "in which the penis is subincised or slit on the underside as far as the urethra"

on a humorous note, the o/p challenged me to find this practice among hindus - i might want to remind her that hindus used to burn widows alive

although this is illegal it still occurs occasionally . . .

and she challenged me on other religions - apparently both coptic christians in egypt and ethiopia and falasha jews [ethiopia] practice clitoridectomy

oh my god...IB....these young girls are taught that there is NO option..they are mutilated by there families and it is wrong to not give them a choice....they killed a bunch of peoiple in darfur but hey,we didnt see it so who gives a fuck,right?
