I'm really curious on how new hippies meet. I know what it was like when I was young, it was hard- really hard. I was living a hippie lifestyle before the label even occurred. This is how like-minded people met in the city that I lived in. We would go downtown and just wander the streets smiling and say hi to people who looked and acted just like us. I think that song by Petula Clark had alot to do with it. DOWNTOWN. Fortunatley we had an old beatnik coffeehouse that was still open and not too far from there , there was a record store that played music onto the street. So that was sort of the gathering area. I started going downtown in '64 and it took me at least 8-10 mos. to meet and start associating with 4-5 people who just happened to be from the same area of town that I was from. The biggest thing that we had in common was that we believed in being ourselves as long as it didn't hurt anyone. By '66, we started gathering in a park that was just in the outskirts of the downtown area. I [un]fortuneatley ran away from everything and went out on the road which eventually took me to San Francisco. I spent over 4 yrs travelling down that long lonesome highway but it was worth every minute of it, and I met alot of like minded people. But along the way, someone in the media decided that I was a hippie so I kinda took the label. How do you young kids meet other like-minded people today?

I hit people that look like hippies over the head with a police baton. Then drug them for several days. I then try to befriend them while they are tied to a chair in my basement. Alot of the time they dont want to put the damn lotion on their skin. So, I give them the hose. That usually teaches them. Eventually they warm up to me and I can untie them and send them to do my bidding.

I would delete you if I could. The thread should have been titled : How Do Hippies Meet Hippies not well you know who you are meets hippies.

Please everyone- just ignore him. All he deserves is your pity not your attention.

Well alright 'kaze, you can have whatever pot you want but I've got stew to make so you better go elsewhere.

Anyway, I have yet to find anybody similar to me, I'm just a young kid who unintentionally skipped over my teen years and throughout all my school years alls I've met are preps, rich kids, and creeps. If I could find one person to hang with maybe I'd be able to check out what's going down in Portland Oregon, but for now I'll sit in this house and get damned good grades. ;]

Festivals like Woodford Folk Festival in Australia are good for meeting people, otherwise I haven't been able to find like-minded people. I don't dress "hippie" - perhaps if that changed I wouldn't have such a problem with meeting others and with my identity :p

I live in a small town full of chav types. It's really hard to meet like-minded people... that's why I've just joined here! :)

for me it's been always been about being loving, open and expressing how i truly feel where ever i am and then others usually see that and will come and connect with me. or the other way around. and by seeking out places that like minded people may be.. for instance.. market festivals in the mountains, music festivals.

it's interesting for me because a lot of people nowadays wear tye dye, fishermen pants, loads of pendents and rings and people box this as "hippie" (new age hippie) but i mean.. it's so misleading sometimes - most of my open minded, understanding, peace making, love offering friends wear just average clothing. i'm not saying that the clothing is important -my point is that i think some people confuse what hippie really means to what hippies 'act' like. i've met barefooted wild eyed people who are real stubborn and rude and won't give someone who doesn't look like them a fair go. you know what i'm saying here?

anyway.. it would be great to come across more lovely hippies! :) it's a bit of a shame that we don't have love-ins, be-ins or even streets where we are sure to find true hippies
