how does my set up sound

hey all. well i got my bigbang seeds from doc. i want to go thru my set up real quick and see if there is anything i am missing.

i have a closet. im going to make two grow boxes sized to the closet. one for vegging and one for flowering.

The following will be how the closet/grow boxes are set up:

1. Make the boxes out of wood so i can fit them perfectly in my closet to increase space available.
2. Get a HPS light from home depot (anyone know how many watts ill need for about 4-5 scrogged plants in a grow box?) will HPS lights work well for vegging?
3. put one of those mini fans in there to circulate air.
4. soil and pots
5. i need to take a screen and place it horizontally in the grow box so it will start to train (scrog) the plants to stay low and maximize the space
6. make a hole for an exhaust system and have the exhaust go into another small box inside the closet, which will have a air purifier in there to grab all the stagnant air. (i hope this will work, i think it will since i only have 3 plants)
7. for vegging, how many hours should it be light and dark: 18 light/6 dark or what?

How does that sound? which number sounds like it will need some change? Can someone please inform me of how much light i will need in there (how many lights of a certain wattage) and how many hours each day for vegging?

thanks alot. im sort of new at this so i just want to make sure my basic design will be sufficient - maybe not extremely involved, just simple and able to grow me a few plants.

 

well you seem like you have most of it down. whether you do 18/6 or 24/0 is your call, just don't change it in the middle of vegging. I choose 24/0 because I don't have to worry about timers or anything, but they seem to grow at the same rate either way.

I'd guess that for 4-5 plants a 400w hps would be good enough. you want roughly 8000 lumens per sq. foot
