First of all I'd like to ask if there are any songwriters or musicians here, to discuss music in its basic aspects, but if you just listen to music and have a pretty good idea, and can recomend a new artist , do so. Since I play and record my own stuff, I hardly listen to anything. Is music getting more mediocre as the sound gets better?
Music always gets better, but theres alot less music being made out of love for music and alot more being made just to make money.
There are good artists, its just they're hard to find. Particularly: Coldplay Michelle Branch The yeahyeah yeahs the white stripes norah jones
This is exactly where music has dropped to. an "artist" on such a list who doent even write her own music. nice music all the same
after speculous investigation ive discoverd she does write half of her stuff on the albums. various news reports, ones like this one http://www.foxnews.com/story/0%2C2933%2C79229%2C00.html threw me off.
the technology has made a lot of new things possible and a lot of difficult things much easier and cheaper.
I also write and record my own music. I don't like any new music, but can recommend alot of old bands. Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith, etc.
There needs to be a revival for creativity. I know that the faster the world becomes, the slower creativity tends to get, and the easier it is for those looking for a quick buck to get in the business of music and mess it up even more each decade . It's up to musicians and songwriters to aim for great quality, and to study the works of geniuses, reagardles of genre or decade. Quality is never independent of time, yet once you learn basic formulas you can create endless amount of great works. Theory, scales an electronics never made good musicians, only the abilty to tell a great song from a mediocre one regardles of who sings it or how it was played. A song is melody and words first; the rest is embellishment.
