Islam is the religion and a Muslim is an adherent of this religion. Muslims believe (if I have this right) very basically that Mohammad was the Messiah...they believe in Jesus; but, that He was conceived by sex. Mohammad was the son of Abraham. Judasim followers believe in the entire Old Testament (the Torah) and I personally find this quite interesting that Only Specially Picked males study/learn the Kaballah (unless you are Madonna and can buy your way in). They believe in Abraham, definitely, and consider themselves to be an "Abrahamic" religion. They also think the messiah will come from the line of Abraham. There is a whole group of those that consider themselves to follow "messianic judaism"...and they believe the same thing, basically, that a christian believes - both old and new testaments. Christians believe in the "whole" bible, that Jesus was/is the Messiah, etc. Jesus came from the line of Abraham, and was prophesized to come from this line since people started recording and collecting what is the bible, and in my opinion, the apocrypha should be included, too. In fact, the aprocrypha WAS included in "the bible" until the 1600's when I guess some of the older geezers decided there was "too much magic" in it and whatever couldn't be proven - like ALL of the other books chosen to remain can be "proven"/pass their tests. However, I digress. ALL of these religions do have their beginning(s) with a belief in God, Allah, Jehovah, Yahwey (etc) and the messiah came from/comes from Abraham. That is my best understanding, anyway.
Well you see, in the beginning, there was god, and god hated man (like he still does). God demanded sacrifices to appease his great thirst for blood, and one day in mecca (in a big rock thing) there was a guy called abraham, who was going to sacrifice his son to appease his evil god-but a wave of particularly strong hate washed over god, and he spoke unto abraham, saying "nah bro, it's cool, just cut half of his dick off, and make everyone else believe exactly the same as you do". At this point, the religions part in their beliefs. Jews still chop up their sons dicks to appease god, while christians have decided that killing jesus (yeshua) saved all of our dicks. Muslims decided that muhammad was born of one of the dickless spawn of abraham, and added to and codified (through his literate christian wife, because he himself was an ignorant illiterate pedophile camel jocky) the word of god as it relates to dicks and all else. Ironically, christians practice circumcision in modern america, which would seem to be a surefire way to anger god by ignoring his great sacrifice of his OWN son....... *EDIT* if you think this post is sarcasm, do some research before saying anything, a billion people have beat you to the punch, but it's not, it's the fact.
RooRshack, I am surprised and actually appalled at that ^ mess that you just said. I know free speech and all that. bla bla bla Still, tho...c'mon now. That is not only unnecessary, but I have NEVER EVER heard that Abraham's "hand being stilled by the angel" and therefore NOT killing his son has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with being circumcised or not. Is that something you just thought up to go with the rest of the hot mess you said or is there actually some kind of indication IN THE BIBLE as relates to Abraham and circumcision? I can understand trying to be cute, and funny and all that jazz, but really.
thanks lynn brown for covering that... I would not have been as polite. also your summary above was basic, so I'll add a few details if that is ok. In the old testament, God promised Abraham a child in his old age (he was 90 I think). His wife Sarah laughed at this, and gave her maid servant to abraham and Abraham slept with her. They had a child Ishmael. Than Abraham and Sarah had a son named Issac. Now here's the problem: Muslims believe that the child of God's promise is Ishmael as the first born of Abraham. There are a lot of thing that go along with the promise, including blessings and the land that the Jews and Muslims fight over in the middle east. Jews believe that the promise was given to Abraham and Sarah, so their son Issac was the son of the promise. Christians, as a sect of Judaism (in other words Christianity originally started as a small part of the Jewish religion) also agree with this view. There are a lot of other details, but that covers the main point. Hope it helps As far as what was said above, circumcision was the sign Abraham did to everyone in his family as his part of accepting God's promise (that's a simple explanation, but the whole thing would take to long... no pun intended). In reference to the original question, both Jews and Muslims practice circumcision because both Ishmael and Issac were circumcised... Paul who wrote most of the new testament said it was not necessary so it is still a point of contention among different christian denominations.

Thank you, insert. I knew there was something else to do with other sons...well, I thought so anyway. I did know Mohammed played a big part, and you are exactly right in your different additions (changes, too. ) Also, I actually appreciate you covering the circumcism thing...I just didn't know. I know ALL jewish men (supposedly) have this ceremony celebrating the circumcision that has a special name for the "party", and the baby's is like 2 wks old? But, I don't think it has any irreputable damage. and whatever. I always liked a circumcised penis a lot better. cleaner. SHHHHH Lordy mercy..did I just say that?
i dont kno about the others but christian priciples are traced from Jesus christ handed down through the bible. yes, abraham is in the bible but the priciples was built on God in his ultimate form and through God when he came as a man named Jesus. abraham just did as God said so he was favored and blessed.
Abraham is the arch father of the jews and arabs. His ancestry is explained in the bible and goes back to Noah. The 12 tribes of Israël also trace their ancestry back to him in the bible via his son Isaac. This was all 100% jewish history and religion. Now, the 12 tribes of Israël brought forth many prophets and the jewish religion developed and it was common in those days to watch out for a messiah. Eventually in the beginning of our calender there finally was a prophet called Jesus that had a powerful following which eventually developed in the belief that he was actually the Messiah. Most jews did not accept this belief though, hence the jewish religion of Judaism continued on the same way while in the next centuries a new religion developed eventually called Christianity. About 6 centuries after the life of Jesus there was a guy called Mohammed in the arabian desert lands where the arabs lived mainly in tribes and a barbaric and divided society (kinda like in early christian europe ). Mohammed sought to unite the arabs and give them a holy book like the jews had and began preaching the belief in one god to them. Eventually it cought on (already in his own lifetime) and they spread this new belief (new because it was customized to fit the arabs) across the arab deserts and after Mohammeds death rapidly to the whole middle east and north Africa. This belief called Islam is heavily inspired by the same origins of Christianity, namely the old religion of the jews. It was already written in the original Tenach that Abraham's oldest son Ismaël that he got with his servant/slave Hagar would be the ancestor of the arab tribes. Hence why his father is regarded as extremely important and holy in arab (muslim) tradition and belief since at least the 6th century when islam got created. So Abraham is not the father of Muhammed like said earlier in this thread but the arch father of both jews AND arabs and also an ancestor of Mohammed
Good summation:2thumbsup: I have also heard that Mohammed would have been Christian but just couldn't accept the doctrine/concept of the Trinity. But yeah, all the crap in the middle east has always been about two brothers fighting over dad's inheritance.
The family feud is only the beginning. To add to some of the other things that were written after my summation: Jews see Christianity as a cult, since they believe Jesus was not the messiah. Around 600 AD like Asmodean said, Muhammad came along, and claimed to hear from an angel in a cave. After repeated visits the angel dictated the Quron to Muhammad, and it basically said the Jews screwed up God's plan, so God sent Jesus as a prophet (not messiah). The angel appeared to Muhammad because Christians had supposedly than screwed up the message of Jesus, and God was sending Muhammad as a prophet to give man one last chance. Cman - in response to your comment, Jesus repeatedly quoted the old testament, and with a few exceptions, left most of it's doctrine and teachings intact. There is much a christian can understand by learning about the Jewish ancestry that Christianity and Jesus came out of. A lot of our teachings come from Abraham and Moses, not just Jesus. Jesus just gave us a different way of looking at a lot of the principles because he understood the entire point of the old testament laws and traditions (something way to lengthy to go into here)
i no he understood, he's the one that gave the teahings to abraham, moses, isaac, and other prophets. he quoted the old because before his death thats what we and they were under but the new testament where christ died is a per se updated way.
wrong! muslims believe (as written in the holy quran) Jesus was the messiah. and strongly believe in Jesus' birth through virgin Mary (volumes of it written in the holy quran again)
and you're a miserable troll who spells **** so it looks like that coin in harry potter. I posted the fact of the matter, you can look it up, in fact I posted a link to look it up. As for kids, got NOTHING to do with this, but yeah.... thank god you don't have any kids...... Fun fact, btw, the muslim hajj involves sitting around the rock that abraham cut his sons dick up inside, although I don't think that anyone but religious authorities are allowed in it, so there's no way to even begin to verify anything about it's legitimacy.
