So in the 60's I guess alot of old fasioned american values were thrown out of the window and the youth went down a more enlightening spiritual path instead of the path of materialism; well the true hippies anyways not the weekend hippies who lived on their own on the weekend and went back to their parents upperclass houses during the week. Most people i've had conversations with on the subject who lived in that time say it was a time when humanity seemed to be up for grabs and alot of change seemed to be circulating with the youths new ideas and dreams of a utopian society free from war and discrimaination. Nowadays though it seems the people are just sitting back and letting the government do what they want.Us the youth who could be out challenging the status quo and going the alternative route are spending all our time conditioning ourselves to fit in with the game by sticking in school and conforming to the current values of today. And when certain youths come out and try and make a difference the rest of the youth just put them down and center them out making fun of the way they live or what they wair because they just can't see the point in taking the road less travelled by. When will we come together as the youth and make a change? How long until the barriers come down again and the magic fills the air? When will we pick up the torch and carry on the dream? Like lennon said "you may say im a dreamer but im not the only one" and true to that I can tell so many of us want to be part of a movement and revise the counter culture in a fresh new way but we just arn't coming together to make it happen. It's time for us to get on the move people! Much love friends
Since when did the counter culture have to do with a certain time period? Counter culture means just that the opposite of the current culture and the reason I refered to the 60's was because that was the first generation to really embrace new ideas and rejection of the status quo. Thanks for the reply
Do you really want me to do this? This is a pretty strong indication that you are referring specifcally to the counterculture of the 60s. Excluding of course such major periods as the Enlightenment, Scientific Revolution, French Revolution, Treaty of Westphalia, etc, etc. Maybe dropping out of school isn't such a good idea just yet?
Whatever it's your choice if you just wanna sit here and dissect my post thats your personal freedom but I didn't mean for this thread to turn into a flame war I just wanted to see what ideas other people would bring to the table. You make a valid point though that there has always been people that rejected the status quo like such visonaries as Gandhi,Martin Luther and of couse many more enlightened folks throughout time that have sparked the notion of change in peoples lives.I guess the reason I chose to use the 60's as a representation was because it was a movement of the youth and this is the youth forum.
This isn't a flame war. You're making huge incorrect generalizations and I'm educating you. The fact that the "counter culture" hasn't come and banged on your door doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Anti-globalization protests (WTO, APEC, etc), culture/ad jamming, RTS, it exists all around.
Well your right the counterculture exists it's just not on our generations top agenda quite yet. And yeah I should have said first counter culture movement of the youth or something like that as theres been alot more movements throughout time way before the 60's movement took place.
Eat your plants and drive your Subarus and Volvos and see that the world is in perpetual motion.... because it always is.
I'd like to see respect come back into vogue. Of course, we'd have to drop assault as a crime for that to happen.
I think he refers to the 60's because it's an easy example and the threadmaker is just trying to appeal this thread to everyone including those who aren't as kn owledgable in this subject. I think he does have i point and i completely agree with his original post IMO i dont believe it was to be dissected and over analyzed as it was.
even ever i try to open peoples eyes and look the fuck around they just roll' there eyes saying there she go's again......people my age can change the government can change soicity...we can change the system....everyone my age just cares about what there going to wear tomarrow..... it sickins me.....
you probly got the wrong forum. no one here gives a fuck or is a real hippie or on a real path... they just like to wear dark side of the moon shirts and make their parents and cutesy little led zeppelin loving schoolmates think they know something they dont. the human mind wants to be a special unique little snowflake, but were all more alike than we probably realize or care to be.. and were all deeply deeply fucked up and corrupt little critters. but remember, jesus loves you.
And the 60s weren't full of fad-following flakes trying to hustle each other for cash or (euphemism for female genitalia)?
