Last fall a woman who owns a local flower shop called me over....apparently a hummingbird who was attracted by her flowers got trapped inside her shop....she said the poor bird tried to get out for hours but couldn't find the door....finally came to rest on a beam in the ceiling of her shop....I took a ladder and climbed up to it....I was worried it would fly away....but it let me cup my hands around it and take it outside....I opened my hands but it just lay there looking at me....I stroked its head and back and it closed its eyes....I thought it had died.....suddenly it opened its eyes....looked at me....and then flew off into the sky....it touched me like no other living creature has touched me before. Hummingbird Iridescent wings no longer take flight trapped within this darkness where your day has turned to night and you ask why the sun has hid his face from you now all you have are memories of the sky where you once flew fading hope dies within your breast for you have nowhere left to go beating heart, beating wings in fear begin to slow as silently you accept your fate no longer do you try to fly sometimes it's much harder to live than to just give up and die so place yourself within my hands and let me hold your pain rest awhile and catch your breath and then take flight again.
