I found a half empty packet of pasta at the bottom of the vegetarian drawer of our freezer and put it on to boil without checking the packet. About half way through eating it I realised I hadn't checked the packet. It had ham in it, it must have been in the freezer for a year or so from my pre-veggie days. I feel sick:(

I know it's not like I went and bought a hamburger or anything, but I still feel really bad about it.

Anyone else had any similar experiences?

Yes. My mom made two containers of meatballs. One was veggie, and the other, meat. I asked her which container had the veggie meatballs and she said the one with the purple top. It turned out that she was wrong. I heated it up and bit into it. All I could taste was blood, so I spit it out, ran over to the kitchen sink and dumped some liquid soap and water into my mouth. I didn't swallow any of the meat, but still it was gross...

    Ugh, yeah...
The other night I was pretty drunk and someone gave me a jello shot. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until 5 mins later. "wait.... jello shot = gelatin". I guess my brain wasn't in vegan-mode like it is when I'm cooking and food shopping.

well i during my stay in college i went to get bean soupe and when i had eaten nearly everything, i found a little flake of bone sticking in my mouth[IMG], i got into shock and convulsed the whole afternoon, after that i never ate from the cafeteria again on days when they served meat.
Cardinal Rule: Smell it, look at it ,if not sure dont touch it.

that hows i see it too. i mean if you think about it, its just so sick, when we can survive without meat. since i became a vegetarian everything i eat seems to be so much more tastey and satisfing cause i know nothing is being killed just so i can eat something that tastes good.

ewww i accidently ate meat twice in the last 22 years, once i ordered a vegatarian stromboli, & 3 bites into it realized it was full of sausage & peperoni..i shoulda sued them!!1 the other time i bought the wrong things, there was always a display at the end of the isle that had the veggie chick patties i liked but then they put some real chicken burgers in an almost identicle package thetre & shopping at 3 am & 1/2 asleep i bought em & ate em, realizing they tasted kinda gross so i could hardly eat em..but i didnt realize why they tasted gross till later when i felt feverish & was puking...i felt totaly toxic for 2 weeks & felt like i had swallowed a rotting brick that just sat in my stomack making me feel just gross...
i'm much more careful after that..i'd rather fave the flu for a whole year, then ever eat 1 bite of meat again

    yuck

A few days ago I went to this birthday party in this resterant. They had food in family style. The main person order spaghetti(sp?) with the sauce containing MEAT! The waiter said that they could put the meat on the side, But no, the main person order with meat in the sauce. Another person had a craving of shrimp, so he ordered shrimp with noddles and this olive oil-lemon sauce thing. I was only to have the shrimp. I got so piss becuse When the spaghetti came out, one side was meat, the other one was "without" meat. I could see the little meat in the side "without" meat.
I didn't eat any of that, My mom and the main person wanted me to eat it too. I was just so mad since the waiter probly just tried to pick the meat out

I've recently given up meat, but i've still been eating things containing animal products. I've basically told myself that i'll cut everything out kinda gradually. I felt that this would make me become accustomed to not eating meat, and so more likely to find it easier. As long term veggies, do you think this is the best way to adapt, or do you think it's easier to cut everything out staight off? The thing is, i really i always enjoyed meat, so it's been hard to get used to.

knock it off, Crappie. I have enough problems without other mods adding to them! ;P
Lots of peeps overreact to meat. It's a reforming addict behaviour.

but do I mention soaps are usually from animal fats? nooooooo.

fuckin A... did the same shit earlier for the first time in like a year now that i think about it. mom brought home rice noodles and some veggies and said theres no meat in it and i thought that was pecuilar since i am vegan. then i realize something in it tastes like chicken, very small bits, and to my shock it tastes okay and i am not appaled by it. regardless of that i spit it out and put it back in the fridge and gave my mom some shit for thinking she picked out all the chicken and feeding me chicken grase. ah well, was bound to happen sometime. time for a fast now methinx, im sure some of that shit got into me without me noticing.... feel so unpure and funky, i was doing the raw vegan thing today too.

what is it with peeps picking out the meat and thinking its safe for us veggies huh, i visited a muslim friend and out of courtesy i refused to say no to her pilau rice, after a dozen assurances that it did not contain meat and was safe coz she had made it herself.i decided to try it out.
after one forkfuls she tells me
''i have removed the meat !''
i just walked out amid apologies which even though i accepted, contended them to be malicious.

sometimes i think there is a Troll mentallity arresting the braingrowth of humanity..and at this rate we will suffer the fate of the peanut brained dinosaurs.
