I know allot of people that never vote becuase they simply do not give a shit about politics at all.

I know people that vote every election, county, state, etc...

I have always voted, but lately I feel like I just pick the nominee that is the one I dislike/distrust the LEAST.

I know politicians are just actors, and as a female I guess the act of voting in and of itself can be symbolic for me, but I feel like casting a vote is participating in a busted system.

This will be a big deal for me, because I have ALWAYS voted since the age of 18. I have been thinking about it for awhile and I really do not think I care to participate in the bullshit anymore.

    Anyone else feel that way?

I do. But I'm not letting myself act through on it.

Only one of my local elections coming up has a candidate I like +_+ One. And I don't even like him all that much.

But there is one I loathe; but other than that, I'm just going to vote on the issues closest to me (most Net Neutrality), because they all seem like total assholes and party puppets.

Yeah...but I am burned out on the BS, I mean think about this:

All the commercials the poilticians run to get elected, thats the same as you or I applying for a job. It is like their application, or resume. That is them trying to get our attention and win our vote. It is like watching Jerry Springer, lies, name-calling, fear-mongering. So much propaganda and bullshit...and all the religious crap. I know seperation of church and state, yada yada yada. All this "christian values" shit.
I really do not care what god someone believes in, or if they don't.

"BRING DOWN THE GOVERMENT...THEY DON'T SPEAK FOR US"
Radiohead said it best with that lyric.

NONE of the bozos in goverment represent me. Fuck it.

This is the first year that the government here is really all attack ads. It's fucking crazy.

I only know the bad things about the candidates, and it makes me want none of them. I really think attack ads hurt the whole system.

But if we stop voting, that's when the corporations take complete control of the government.

Sadly I feel this has already happened.

    Citizens United anyone???

    Bank bail outs??

When the folks running are bought and paid for by the lobbyists the goverment is ALREADY controlled by corporations.

I guess I just do not want to vote in "The United Corporations of America" anymore...

^ if you were right, the fight for Net Neutrality would be over, the Internet would be censored, illegal downloads would be as punishable as crack dealing, the FDA would only regulate recreational drugs, etc. etc. etc.

But it is starting, and that's why it's more important than ever to be active in this horrible clusterfuck we call a democratic republic.

I just did my roommate's gov't homework for him (I'm a nerd, he's lazy, and I miss school..its mutually beneficial) and I had to analyze a chart that plotted the percentage of voters at each election since the early 1800s. During the 1800s, voter turn out held pretty solid at 80% of all potential voters actually voting. Shortly after blacks were given the right to vote, that number started steadily declining. During the 60s and 70s voter turnout hit a low of 50% and its held pretty steadily since then.

I think there is a lot inherently wrong with our entire political system that a high voter turn out won't entirely fix, but don't you guys think the republic of america would work a lot more like it was originally intended if we had 80% voter turn out again?

edit: especially if we were able to write in candidates for every single elected position. If the majority of people voted for some random write in I think that would eventually force our government to realize that the two party system of voting for the lesser of two evils is not working.

There's a chance Ron Paul would be our President if every state allowed write-ins. I think that would've really affected the voter turn out; and he got a shitload of write ins as is.

But there's a bigger chance that Lil Wayne would be.

 oh jeez. maybe its better we don't always allow write in candidates in that case. personally, I would be very disappointed in my country if Ron Paul beat out Lil Wayne.

I haven't heard a single bad thing about Ron Paul.

The main argument against him is that he's pro-life, but he thinks that it should be the states right to choose..

I think the only reason people stopped liking him is because the Tea Party does and his son is a moron.

There is no way of avoiding the catastrophy wich is coming- not even revolution because people nowdays are completely brain washed by the media and have lost common sense and skills to have a balanced life with their environment and each other. In the old days a revolution may have helped a little because people still had a sense of balanced life, thats over now. 99% of the people dont even understand what they want most: money.

The FED's made sure of that.

Most people think America is a democracy. They don't even understand what their votes mean.

Exactly. This is why the Republic part is so important.

But then people think America is a straight-up democracy and they are like "well the politicians don't do what I want, so it's broken"

This is a goddamned country. Not American Idol.

I was being sarcastic. My dry sense of humor doesn't always translate well on the internet.

I love Ron Paul. He's very much a constitutionalist and the only senator that seems to have any understanding of states' rights anymore. There are a few issues in which I don't necessarily agree with him, but with Ron Paul I feel like it doesn't matter if I agree with him or not because he respects the right of the individual and of each state to the point where he doesn't let his own personal views tamper with our constitutional rights.

He also seems to be the only politician willing to go against party lines, which is a breath of fresh air considering the general bipartisanship in our current political atmosphere. He was accused once of not being a conservative because he supported marijuana legalization and he didn't hesitate to point out the hypocrisy of most Republicans and the fact that marijuana legalization is actually supported by traditional conservative principles. Thank god for ron paul. without him I would have absolutely no hope in american politics.

as long as we have mass media and film/games industry brainwashing people it wouldnt even change much to have people participate in a democratic process as we can see in Switzerland for example. Turned into a police state despite more direct democracy. Mass media just brainwash the people before a vote...
