I have to be picked for jury duty in the morning. I'm not too happy about it because I'm low on sleep. I don't usually sleep in the night, I sleep in the day so this is totally fucked up. I just hope they don't pick me. How could they? I'll seem retarded from lack of sleep. Hopefully that will be enough to convince them that I'm not fit for jury service. Because I'm an insomniac I couldn't just sleep earlier because I'm out of pot. (My sleep aid) I don't want to spend (possible) hours waiting to be confronted and interviewed. I'd rather be home, sleeping....... How is it right for them to do this to me? To anyone? To force them to perform a service for the government? I guess that's why they give you money..... people wouldn't do it if they didn't get compensation. Yes, I know I'm being dramatic (it's my own fault for not calling them beforehand and trying to get out of it). Anyway, I should try to get some of that good old sleep before morning. Tty guys later.
I'm still up. Do any of you guys know how long it takes to get picked? Could I be there all day?
i was dismissed from a murder case once, but it took like four hours. im a third shifter, too so i was hatin it. they will give you ten dollars, though.
Do you have to be registered to vote to perform jury duty? And of course I am! Have been since I turned 18.
Alright so I decided to stay up....... I'm usually up now as it is so whatever. I have another question? Will they object if I bring someone with me? I know they can't be with me during the interview but I just mean while I'm sitting there waiting......
yeah. thats how they select the jury pool.. registered voters. my baby mommas mom is not a registered vorter. when i asked her why she said so she dosent get picked for jury duty. I called her a selfish lazy bitch and told her to get out of this country if you dont want to contribute to society. not really, but thats what i wanted to say. i got dismissed from the murder trial, and also a few months befor that i got dismissed from this case where a really old crackhead poured paint thinner on her neighbors dog. what a ****. jury pools can be interesting sometimes, but i understand that 8am is fucking bullshit for someone who works well into the middle of the night
I don't think you can bring anyone with you, at least the courts I've been to, they make you have a jury id card, don't think they would let someone in without one.
Yes, but I don't mean to the actual jury session.... I just mean to get picked. I want to bring my sis. I don't even have a jury id card or anything like that yet. Oh, and Death? I'd like to say I work hard at the night shift and all that, but I don't even have a job right now. I just live at night. I know it's weird, but it's been my schedule for almost a decade. Hard to break.
jury selection is open to the public. i even planned on going to one once cuz i saw a name on the docket that i knew from the past, but i never went. i also had a friend in criminal justice who had to sit in a real court case and write a report about it. theyre mostly public except high profile cases i think.
get money? what? you'll get some compensation if you miss work if you're kept on the jury. they just dont' hand out money for showing up, at least not where i go. and if you are kept, and its a long trial - 3+ days, then its up to your job to start compensating you. and in most places its registered voters + licensed drivers for the master list. you should have paid attention when you were first selected, maybe you could have been exempted or push the date back. i really wouldn't bring anyone with you. they'll most likely have to wait in the waiting room, which is incredibly boring. you could be there all day. last time i served i was at the court for almost 8 hours. i got tossed from a murder case because i said i was a student. i was put on the jury for the 2nd case later that day, some civil suit, where the judge didn't think being a student was enough hardship. but then the lawyers kicked me off., then i was finally able to go home.
I don't expect to get any money just for going to the selection process, but maybe I will. And I decided not to bring her, she's going to bed.... The only reason I wanted to bring her was to have someone to talk to while I waited forever and ever. Well, I did pay attention when I was first called ! I'm just a bad procrastinator and I get really nervous over the phone. I was worried my excuses weren't good enough; they wouldn't believe me; I'd get nervous and my voice would be fucked up (this shit happens to me). So I procrastinated. I know it. My plan is to go there and act totally uninterested.... which won't be hard...... It might not work though. You said something about licensed drivers...... could I possibly be exempted because I don't have a drivers license? Or did I read that wrong?
you read that wrong - the master list they use for selection processes is made up from registered voters + licensed drivers. we get a card we have to mail back. has like a listing of 8 types of hardships. they keep sending me a summons. i did it 2 years ago. so i have 1 more year of being exempt because in MA, you only have to serve every 3 years
This card they give you..... will they give me one today? Because that would be great - I can think of quite a few hardships that will hopefully be on the list.
they mailed me a card and thats how i found about i had jury duty. how did they notify you if you didnt get a card in the mail?
