Could also be that Nyquil is for night time use and that the doxylamine succinate in there makes you tired, like it's supposed to The DXM is also a dissociative, however, it doesn't really have too much of an effect in that manner at the medicinal dosage level.
Try a bottle or two of robotussin. And drink some pomegranate juice like 2 hours before you drink the tussin. Yeah man. Then smoke a bowl or two. You'll have a good night. Do it. Right fucking now!

I actually read in in the DXM FAQ thread here on hip, so if it's wrong tell the author The day I went to mars on DXM I drank a bottle of pom AND ate a grapefruit, so it could have been either or both. Medicinal dose DXM does have an effect on me.. I usually end up feeling drowsy as hell and in general just a bit fucked up.
