I hate the ignorance and lethargy in the public opinion. "societies standard," of how one should act and react, in order to be considered "civilized." I am primarily a writer, but secondarily a rebel. I oppose the ideas of this "civilized society," and I believe we live in a very fascist, outdated tyrannical system that feeds a minority of rich bankers.

I have very little, to no desire to live in this world, in which words like "Liberty," are very rarely anything more than political rhetoric. Why would I want to work and make a steady paycheck, just to feed the machine? Furthermore, if I were to work, I would be giving up my own liberty to smoke marijuana and use drugs as I please. It is not the government or corperations business, to know what I use in my spare time.

I just, I hate the way the world is. To some degree one can understand that everyone hides in their ignorant avoidance, in the idea that somehow everything is still okay. (To some it's religion, or their pets, or their jobs etc.)I don't feel that, in the least. But I still have my ignorant avoidance, in that; I use drugs to escape the iron clutches of this "reality" or, "society," if you will. I don't want to lose that part of me!!! It's the only comfort I have in a world in which I do not wish to live.

As a writer and creative person especially, you're going to feel that way if you don't feel like you're making a difference in the world.

Find people who share your beliefs, find something you can do to give you more purpose. Find something to give you hope and make your mark on the world.

Well I just moved south from NY and I fucking hate this state. But I don't have too many options. I mean, I can work and go to school but I feel like where is my playtime? Especially since most jobs drug test, and that's ALL I do for fun.

You're a writer, right? Work for yourself. Also, I'm sure you can find people similar to you, you just have to give it time and look in the right places.

Thanks. Yeah, well, I need to get back into college. But yes, I have 20.5 college credits primarily in literary arts. (As well as acting and some others.) I do however, live right by Atl and, I go there pretty often. I've been trying to meet people that way.

The only thing you do for fun is drugs? That's something a complete loser druggie would say, so i'm sure there are other things you enjoy doing...

But anyways, i know what you mean... i feel the exact same way all the time... but we shouldn't feel this way... there are people in this world that would loove live where we live and be under the same conditions we're under, people that live in our society and complain are just being self-centered and ignorant, and don't take offence to that because that includes me too... why can't we appreciate what we have? Sure, our government and this society is fucked... but what isn't? Nothing is perfect... sure there is lies and corruption and greed, but be thankful you have food to eat and all of these luxuries... there have been much worse societies than the one we live in now... what about back during the collapse of the soviet union? would you rather live then and there? or what about all of these poor african countries that barely even have drinking water?

Yes, our society is shit... but they're all shit, but the thing is... we live in the best shit there is... so stop bitching and be thankful

Then again.. i still feel the same way you do, so fuck it lol

That is one thing that i have noticed from drug users, the use of drugs usually comes with the elitist personality. I'm guilty of it...

I'm like half and half on your response. I'm not a loser druggie and I tend to disagree with the premise. At least I'll admit drugs is all I do for fun, I'd rather spend 20$ on a bag of herb rather than a bullshit movie ticket and have to be in public. It's just my preference, some people like to blow their money at bars, I like to smoke weed and chill at home.

And again, with the government thing. I've heard this a lot, we're somehow better than "other countries," we're better than third world countries sure. But America does very dirty business. We keep the third world countries down by being consumers. Africans aren't starving because they can't grow food. They're starving because United fruit Corp owns most of their land. So in all reality we're in a much worse spot, our government kicks ass and takes names all day.

You're right about that last statement. At the same time, drugs can make it very difficult to progress in a career. Also, as a writer(despite the dogma) you don't really need a degree to do well.

I'm a writer too. I studied Writing/Linguistics in college and I studied writing in high school...I quit college and really had to de-school myself from all the things I believed due to teachers & classes and forge me own way...I found that there are a lot of writers out there doing really well without degrees...even without studying writing in any school or classes whatsoever.

Look around Atlanta too...the suburbs...North Georgia is full of liberated people.

Sometimes I get pretty annoyed with it all as well, but usually I'm so focused on what I'm doing I don't really worry about it.

First, what do you mean by "better"? Quality of life is highly subjective and different to gauge from statistics. I would argue that there are people in third world countries that are much happier than people in the US, and even than people in some of the truly great countries of the world.

They do attempt to compare quality of life between countries, though, and the USA might be better off than some other countries, but just because somewhere else sucks more, doesn't mean the USA doesn't also suck.

If you are bored with your existence, I recommend you go play in the world. Use all the drugs you want, but life is stimulating and exciting in so many ways, so make sure you don't miss out on too much. Sure, some times it's hard and it hurts and you get tired, but it's only going to end one way so you might as well enjoy yourself until then. Take some risks, live like you have nothing to lose, because you don't. The most important thing to do IMO is to travel to other countries, and if you can, learn another language or two.

This thread makes me wonder what the hell I was thinking sticking to alcohol and cannabis for the most part since I quit doing mushrooms so often along with whatever else I got hooked up with including acid, extasy, adderall, vicodin and well of course alcohol and cannabis.

All that money I spent on alcohol could have been used for opiates, psychedelics, more weed and maybe some adderall or whatever. Moral of that story: Drinking is bad.

it seems like you think that anyone who enjoys their job, pets, or going to church is automatically an unaware sheep that has no idea what's wrong with the world. it's okay to enjoy things in your life and still be critical of the world around you.

    Couldn't agree more.

Marietta area I assume? Wish I live around those parts then. I'm south of Atlanta and have mostly found the exact kind of people that the OP has described. Doesn't help that the college I attend is even further south.
