There are precautions you can take such as wearing long pants instead of shorts when you walk through wooded areas infested with ticks, and insect repellant is also a good idea :H Hotwater
Early treatment of Lyme disease almost always results in a full cure. Complete cures decrease as treatment is delayed. That's a myth that you always have it, in all cases. There is also a vaccine availible. I don't find ticks to be pleasant, at all, and rather painful when borrowing its little head into my skin. It is also a myth that they jump out of trees or tall bushes down onto you. They can't jump.
long sleeve shirts, full length pants, high top turd kickers. tick season is not the time to go squezing through the shrubery in your skin. grew up taking the above mentioned precautions and never had any problem with them. skeeters on the other hand. let's just say their love for my blood is not mutual. =^^= .../\...
If you spend any time long distance hiking you quickly learn to strip and do a tick check whilst your dinner boil is on each evening. Spend 5 months on the AT and you WILL get ticks. Do a thorough check, because it is the small deer ticks that carry Lyme, and they can be as small as the head of a pin. Treat your clothes and shelter with permethrin (a refined natural substance). If you still get one, smear the tick with olive oil and they'll back out in a few moments. Then sterilize with alcohol. No big deal.
last time i got a tick was the first time i tripped on acid. trying to burn that fucker off was one of the most harrowing adventures in my life.
