hip hop is basically my life, i live it and breathe it and without the mc's out today i would go nuts. i love hip hop because its the only music that keeps up with my brain. if people knew what REAL hip hop was i bet they wouldnt talk so much shit. just a pet peeve of mine...
I can't stand most mainstream hip hop, but I do have an appreciation for hip hop that is more organic. I definitely dig the Roots, Tribe, Guru, early Nas, Mos Def and a few others. Its wonderful art. However, I do have issues with the commercialized stuff simply because of the image and message that much of it portrays. In my opinion, bling bling and Gangsta violence is about the most pathetic aspect of human culture out there. A lot of Hip Hop glorifies this culture as 'hip'. Because of this I can understand why many people have such a negative view of the hip hop art form.
I hate when people say that because someone isn't a fan of a certain band, movie, book, etc., that they're stupid and don't know what they're talking about. Just a pet peeve of mine.
Agreed People on this site have a rather limited taste, not a good cross section. I'll admit to thinking that the worst of rap, the degrading of women, the promoting of violence and materialsim is a burden on society. There are some good hip hoppers out there, no doubt about it.
That is cool though. almost ALL mainstream rap is terrible aside from people like common, etc.. and they arent even really THAT mainstream. I just feel like people have a very biased view of what hip hop really is. if you listen to what any underground mc's have to say, they are always dissing on mainstream rap and most would never "sell out" in that sense. the majority of the lyrics are thought provoking or at least not offensive in the 'bitches and violence' way. i just wish people would expand their horizons more. its fine if you listen to real hip hop and its just not for you, but theres no excuse for someone to hate on it just because they are ignorant about it and only base their opinions on MTV and clearchannel playlists.
i really feel you there. true hip hop is a passion of mine too... i do'nt know about you but i have so many long verses memorized in my head and they're just so incredible. it's definetely a pet peeve of mine when people say they don't like hip hop but haven't even listened to the good stuff. do you have any great local emcees where you are? I've got about 6 albums from michigan artists that just blow my mind. If you have those local cats where you are let me know. maybe we could trade or something? i'm always looking for new words. peace be with you
I hate rap and I love it. The difference is what kind of rap it is. On the one hand there is mainstream rap like Nelly and Ja Rule. I hate this, as it is basically a talentless rabble of consumerism and profit-mongerism. These people arent from the hood, they are merely buisinessmen who rhyme. On the other hand, there is more independant rap, like Necro and Immortal Technique. I am addicted to this kind, and I love it. Necro is cool because he is so sick that it is rather amusing. Immortal Technique rhymes for the people and for revolution. My musical tastes are generally the same for all genre's, the mainstream allways sucks, and is just a corporate money grab nowadays.
I pretty much don't like rap...mostly because of what it represents. But I've heard some underground stuff that isn't half bad.
1 OF the few reasons that i wish Maybe Hitler and the ovens should be still around . any jews here keeep your mouth shut is not adddress to you. or blacks with real music talents.
I am by nazi definitions the perfect example of an Aryan (very tall, very blonde and blue eyed), and I will open my mouth, because you are a jackass. Hitler should have went into his own oven, and so should you, you racist bastard. And dont say it was just a joke, because it was completely out of the blue and wholly offensive. What are you, 12?
You are the Crown of Creation You are the Crown of Creation and you've got no place to go. Soon you'll attain the stability you strive for in the only way that it's granted in a place among the fossils of our time. In loyalty to their kind they cannot tolerate our minds. In loyalty to our kind we cannot tolerate their obstruction. Life is Change How it differs from the rocks I've seen their ways too often for my liking New worlds to gain My life is to survive and be alive for you.
