ok so i stole the title but i do. me and a freind are always chatting crap about changing the world for the better. we belive that the things you need in life should be free i.e food shelter water and as the mordern world would have it power for heating cooking ( and unfortunatly your x station or play box whatever you call them). we have talked long and hard about how we would achieve oue goals and so far we have this

1 plant fruit trees and vegitable patches al over the place instead of putting flowers in the centre of a round about how about some cabbage and lettice. how about all the ornemental trees in our towns and citeis wouldnt it be great if you could pick an apple as you stroll round the shops

2 shelter ok i ive in england i dont know how it is any where else but here in the north of england there are so many houses been torn down so some fat cat can build new mordern housing and charge an arm and a leg for why not save the money on building these and just let people live in them for free i know that we have a rising population but me and my freind would cap how many kids 1 child per famly population goes down slowly more houses that are empty no more homeless folk

3 water in my house we have a saying that you cant refuse a man water why do we have to pay for something that has always dropped out of the sky and always will i know some will say that it has to be filterd and cleaned and things added but it doesnt thats a con and we all know it what did we do before filttering and chloreine did we all die no we did not

4 free power we already have the means to do this solar hydro wind farms hell the could but little water wheels in the pipes that carry our water to us yu turn your tap on the wheel spins hey presto electricity every house with a solar panal or wind mill or even better both

ok so there are some of our ideas i know they need work to get right but i want to bring this to the world some how. i know people will say who will pay for all of this but do we still really need money it only breeds evil greedy men. any ideas on how to improve on these ideas or how to make them work would be most welcome i even want the nay sayers as if i can work around the problems they throw up i might be able to convince the rest of the world and wouldnt that be a wonderfull world

Water is the new resource of those that wish profit without working, be prepared to pay for it. Air will be next.

the beginning is to break down things, and the second part is the important part, the main dish.
the concept introduced in this documentary is vital to help the world on a macro level.

This is never going to happen.
    Why?

    A. People do not do things for free.
    B. Our housing stock isn't used properly, true...plenty of empty properties etc.
But they are not all the same: built for one person or a family. If your are not planning on sterilising women when they have had one child, women will have more than one child. Then you have to match the need of the person/family to the house they should live in. That leads to a shortage of acceptable housing, eventually.
    C. "what did we do before filttering and chloreine did we all die no we did not " - yes we did die, and still do by the millions.

According to the World Health Organization, diarrheal disease accounts for an estimated 4.1% of the total DALY global burden of disease and is responsible for the deaths of 1.8 million people every year. It was estimated that 88% of that burden is attributable to unsafe water supply, sanitation and hygiene, and is mostly concentrated in children in developing countries

    D. Free electricity? Who is going to pay to retro-fit every home in the world?

    E. What about countries wich are diametrically opposite to England?

    Hello Shaman Stig

Over on this side of the pond, Housing is heavilly subsidized by the Federal Goverment which creates perverse incentive such as the McMansion you describe. Taxes paid locally on your home are deductabile for federal taxes. The McMansion is as much a tax shelter as it is a dwelling.

Only about four years ago we had an Alternative Minimum Tax whereby the local tax on real estate was not fully deductable. Fat cats with big property tax deductabiles had to pay anyway. The Alt Min Tax was revoked!

We pay very little for water here on the wet, East Coast. My experience in NYC is that those without water meters wasted the water. Imposing a cost insures some conservation of this resource.
