Tomorrow I'm going to see an 18 month old female beagle. The people say that they have all of the vet records for her and she is free. Don't you think that it is kind of strange that they are giving away a full blooded beagle? I'm still debating if I want to take it on though because I know that beagles need a lot more training than other breeds. Does anyone else have a beagle? If so what has your experience like? They have a bad reputation for being very hard headed. I just want to make sure I get the breed that is right for me.

My Girlfriend has a beagle and loves it like no other. He's an extremely loving dog but don't expect to let it roam free off the leash since they follow their noses :) Very food motivated too so training with food is easy as long as there is no distractions around. Just consider what you want in your dog first since its a long committment but I'm sure you're aware of that already.

I love beagles. My dog is some sort of beagle, probably not a pure breed. She's definitely hard headed but she learns with time and care. They are very loud dogs, but you'll grow to love the howl, and hate it. It's a gift and a curse. I say go for it. I would never change the decision I made to take my dog in, even through all of the hardship she makes me endure.

I was givin a beagle a few years ago. I think shes 10 now. Great lil dog, very friendly paintbrush always wagging. They are very barky, mine to the point I dont think she breaths. They are strong headed. You cant leave them loose as they will get run over, they put their nose to the ground and zone out everything else. They simply bite through nylon leashes and rope so you will need chain leash and chain tie out. Beagles are notorious escape artists and mine managed to go through a chainlink dog kennel. Their barking can be controlled when its necessary.

I live with a beagle mix that is very obedient. It listens to pretty much everything I say expect when I tell him to stop barking. He barks like he is trying to talk to you...so very sweet. He loves attention and snuggling up on the couch. He is an all around great dog.

I know what you mean about escape artist. He has almost gotten out of the backyard 3 times.
