Okay I know there is a faq and everything. But I'm an idiot. Well not an idiot, it's just that I don't really understand something unless it's told to me. Reading a FAQ is just going to make me ask more questions that aren't located in the FAQ.

    Anyway.

Okay, my hair is like medium long now. To my shoulders.

Should I wait until my hair is long long, or should I just start now?

My hair will go very curly (unless I use my special shampoo:p) so I was wondering if that is going to help or make a problem.

Once again sorry for not using the FAQ but it just doesn't make any sense to me, I need direct attention lol.

Soaringeagle if you read this please respond. Because your the man and I trust you the most on this topic.

Very curly hair will generally dread easier than straighter hair. I think your hair is long enough, but the decision is up to you

What do you mean by natural?

Like do absolutely NOTHING to my hair? Just let it be?

But if I do that my hair goes CRAZY. Unbelievable crazy, like no hair I've ever seen.

And how do I separate it so it makes individual dreads?

after it goes crazy... you just chill. and then a bit later, if you chilled long enough. then you get dreads.

Well the point is for your hair to become a complete mess and than you rip the knotted up hair into sections as you go. This takes a lot of patience and time. Also, if you fiddle with your hair a lot it may not be the best route for you. A lot of people backcomb or twist and rip, or a combination of the both. Reading up and hanging around here for a bit might give you a better idea of what method is right for you. :)

What else would you call dreads. Crazy hair is key. Sounds like if you throw away the brush you will be rockin the lock in less than a year.

I believe SE would tell you to put your brush away and just let your hair be (like the others have said). That's the route he went (natural) and is a very large advocate of it in the forum. But many people here have used different methods.

The hair looks wild and crazy no matter what method you choose for the first 6 month and up to a year.

I recommend using residue free shampoo/soap to wash your hair a few days prior to dreading. To speed up the dreadlocking process, divide your hair into sections and then back-comb (comb the hair toward the scalp as much as you can, even if it hurts) and then wait about a month before continuing to wash with a residue-free soap. Bingo, dreads.

I looked at your pics and i think Dreads will look great on you. Choose whatever method you like, personally I keep my tamed down. I backcombed, twisted n pinched ( not rip n twist) just twisted n pinched so they tighten up, and i been doing this after every wash which is every 3-4 days. Then i use Aloe gel to tame down the frizzies. I would let them go wild, but I'm on the unemployment Train with the other 9.2% of WI people. So i have had some interviews the past week, so thus i been keeping them tamed down. I also get a lot of help from my Hubby, because i cant do the back.

anyways Ramble Ramble good luck and when u get them PICS PLEASE..

wait a month? why? just keep washing it like normal with res-free

If you go natural, just stop brushing or using conditioner... otherwise, wash your hair like normal with a residue free shampoo, or baking soda diluted in water, or just water according to your taste.

for backcombing, look in the faq because I'm not explaining it, but same process, backcomb and then the same shit I said above.

for twist and rip, you basically twist a section of hair then split it in two and pull the two sections apart to push knots down. same as the other two after that.

you can also opt to use a combination of any of the above methods... the key to all of them is its going to take a few months, up to a year and there are going to be days that your hair looks like crap until it locks up.

backcombing seems to be the fastest, twist and rip is close to that, if not the same and going all natural will take the longest.

stay away from wax and rubberbands and that's about it.

you can start now, but they will stick out a bit for a month or so because of your length (if you aren't using the neglect method).
the curliness will help. i would recommend twist and rip for your hair type, it seems to work well for curlies.
