When I left Flatbush, Brooklyn (after having my life threatened and my nose broken in three parts) I was like, "Good riddance."

Now I miss the big booties, and the old West Indian guys drinking Guinesses on the stoop all day long.

It's like the higher the standard of living in a neighborhood is, the more apart people are from their neighbors.

Ha...me too. There were these old people who used to set up a card table right in the middle of the sidewalk and play dominoes and drink. I'd say hey to them every day while I edged around them on my way home from work. They were cool! Now I've upgraded (not very much) and nobody hangs out drinking in the street anymore.

Of course I don't miss leaving my apartment and almost tripping over a crackhead taking a shit on the sidewalk. That was kindof awkward.

That couldnt possibly have struck closer to home for me. And it makes me feel sad. Im looking for something that my family or where theyve brought me up can never provide.

    Right. It's give and take--.

Back then I had a shitty night-job as a hotel clerk, and I'd be coming back from work 7am on a Sunday, with 11 inches of snow, and these people would be selling drugs in the corner.

    24/7.

Mojo- I live in Queens. It's so culturally diverse, everyone is a stranger to one another.

Scarlett Johansson is a dream, isn't she? :D

Eh.. I've lived in this place for over half my life, it's home no matter how far apart the people are. Having said that, if you get locked out being the only one around isn't the greatest.

From what I've read, Queens sounds like the best place to live in NY.

What ever are you talking about?..

Queen's got the highest standard of living. But it's kind of boring.

Although, that's a generalization. You can find anything in Queens, as in any other borough.

From crack-whores, to yuppies, to artistes, to blue-collar_.

But since I've moved here, I feel so safe. In Brooklyn I was ALWAYS tense.

I didn't realize that until I actually moved out and suddenly I could stroll down the street, and daydream without a thought to my environment at any time of day or night.

You should move to Staten Island ;)

It seems Brooklyn gets rougher as you head away from Manhattan....or at least it looks like it does

I hate tense. I get that down the shops near school. I can no longer feel safe there.

    Nooooooo. :D

Brooklyn is patchy. Of course, it's changed now, but the area right off the Brooklyn Bridge used to be C-R-A-Z-Y a while back.

Red Hook too; and those are right across the river.

But the worst neighborhood of all is East New York. And that is far away from Manhattan, you're right.

Duck-hide-and-scurry central. But I haven't been to the ghetto in a while.

definitely some truth to this. when i lived in the semi-ghetto, i had to work to isolate myself. now it's so much easier.

I miss the city, by the city I mean any city I've ever been to. Even Santo Domingo. Cities are just so alive and full of so many interesting? places, faces. I like walking around with the sound of traffic, loud voices, taking a break to have a conversation with a random eccentric stranger, being surprise by a cool tiny place, someone handing you a flyer of something you actually love, good food...

It's so boring here. You walk and there's no one there. There's really nowhere to go. Blah. Nothing but trees and houses.

I'm glad I live out in the boonies and can run around naked if I want to. Only the cows will see me....well them and possible rednecks hiding in the woods smelling like deer urine.

no no no, the city is evil. and i mean any city i've ever been to. i love visiting the city, but living there is kind of hellish.

unfortunately, it's hard to find jobs or affordable housing out in the country. plus there's no women there that didn't get married and knocked up within two weeks of high school graduation.

Hahaha very true. That's why I'll be living in a trailer, well I will as soon as I can convince my dad to help me put the new carpet in the bedrooms.
