i miss when music meant something...

that the music industry is so fucked up in their convoluted war on piracy and that the world is so engrossed in this stupid war my country started that we have forgotten who we really are...that the sixties are an all but forgotten era that lives in the minds of few...i miss the beatles...they fucking stood for something...amazing musicians with the capacity to carry their peaceful music to the world...and im sorry to the world that teenagers now barely if at all know who the beatles were...but there are others...bob marley...neil young...the who...the rolling stones...and many more just to start...

wonderful music is meant to be shared by all...sure, we didnt have mp3's file sharing programs back in the day but, its all about sharing...this rock we live on is just that...a rock...we quickly forgot that in our drive to accumulate wealth and to survive...i feel ill tonight...i feel ill because of what may be ahead for us...or the lack there of...there are two choices for us in this future...death pain and sadness which seems to always happen to some extent...or a joining of sorts...and embrace our true being...the beatles said it once over the first satellite transmission forty years ago to the world and it stands true today as it stood true in yesteryear...all you need is love...

so, instead of supporting the music industry any more then you can avoid, the thing to do is visit the websites of musicians who make the kinds of music you like, and or go to LOCAL music festivals where your kind of music is played, and buy their tunes as directly off of them as possible.

some have storefronts ON THEIR WEBSITES for doing this. others will direct you to something of the sort. many have free samples of their work on their sites, which is THEIR'S, not the music industry's, to give away if the damd well feel like it. and of course, at LOCAL music festivals, you will often find one or more band members at a booth/table where you can buy their cd's off of them DIRECTLY. imagine that. total trip. not only do you get to drool on them in person, if you're psychofanishly inclined, but if you ask nice, and there isn't a million impatient people standing in line behind you, they might even sign their cd covers.

believe it or not, there still ARE free concerts in the parks in many places, as well as locally sponsured, promoted and produced festivals.

so why in the hell ever buy your music from a major record label or off the wall mart?
(or even most retail store real world store front record stores)

Then they are freaked out that some sites offer the music before it even hits the US market for sale free for the (hmmm nice word) "taking" stealing seems so dirty a word. Movies are the same way.

Music still means as much as back in the sixties (and before). There was crap back then as well, it's all in your mind. Of course the music industry is fucked up, it already started in the precious sixties. Thank that decade for that (or maybe even an earlier decade)?
We're not living on just a rock, by the way. There are so many 'rocks' in space and this is the only one we know that has all this life, love, plants, animals and so on and on. Music is the greatest thing on earth, in my opinion. And even when I also don't like the majority of what is being released right now, I still like enough to fill my hours with good music of the present. Also of the past of course, actually I don't really care when it's being recorded, although it's fun to be able to see young people play good new music live. And I do :)

The entire music Industry is fucked up, a few weeks ago the number one song in the nation was "Radio Nowhere" by Bruce Springsteen but top 40 radio wouldn’t play it. And those radio ass holes wonder why everyone's listening to there I-Pods instead of the radio. In the 60's most top 40 radio stations would play the 30 most popular songs again and again all day. This is the chart that would dictate what would be played on New York's most popular radio station (WABC) this week in 1967.

    TW LW
    1. Incense and Peppermints -
The Strawberry Alarm Clock (Uni) *1 week #1* 4
    2. The Rain, the Park and Other Things - The Cowsills (MGM) 3
    3. Soul Man - Sam & Dave (Stax) 5
    4. To Sir With Love - Lulu (Epic) 2
    5. Expressway to Your Heart - The Soul Survivors (Crimson) 1
    6. It Must Be Him - Vikki Carr (Liberty) 6
*7. Daydream Believer - The Monkees (Colgems) 14
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
    8. Please Love Me Forever - Bobby Vinton (Epic) 11
*9. Gimme Little Sign - Brenton Wood (Double Shot) 7
    10. Keep the Ball Rolling - Jay & the Techniques (Smash) 20
    11. Get On Up - The Esquires (Bunky) 18
    12. Never My Love - The Association (Warner Brothers) 8
    13. Boogaloo Down Broadway -
The Fantastic Johnny C. (Phil-L.A. of Soul) 21
    14. I Heard It Through the Grapevine -
Gladys Knight & the Pips (Soul) --
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
    15. Your Precious Love - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (Tamla) 15

    *former Pick Hit

    Dan Ingram - 2:00 - 6:00 PM, Monday - Friday
    2:00 - 6:30 PM, Saturday

Was all of the music good? No. but it’s a hell of a lot better than what you hear on the radio today.

Mp3 are of such poor quality that they should be given away for free. Many times I have downloaded an mp3 of a song then later bought it on record.

The music industry has always been afraid of people copying music for free, they were afraid of every new tape format that came out (reel-to-reel, 8 track, cassette). But none of them took a big chunk out of their profits because it was impossible to mass distribute illegal copies. Also only reel-to-reel could replicate the quality of a record without any noticeable loss. Now mp3s are taking a chunk out of CD sales wile vinyl record sales are increasing.

So what does this all tell you, I don’t know.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it garbage but at that time they weren’t all that much better than all the other British pop groups. They got a lot better when they all dropped acid in 1967.

    Fuck the music industry.

There is an insane amount of great, expressive, real underground bands out there.

Eh, the 60's had some great music, but it's a bit overrated I think. There is great music from every era--even now--and there was plenty of shitty music made in the 60s. The good stuff is just harder to find now because the industry is changing and being pulled in two extremely different directions--the ultra-corporate, Clear Channel major label-controlled side and the independent MySpace, word of mouth, indie record company side. Neither are good for listeners because with the first it doesn't always guarantee that the cream will rise to the top, and with the second you have to trudge through tons of bands that are still shitty and cookie cutter, just not famous.
