I live in an apartment with three other people. Tonight I was in my room and I guess my roommates thought I wasn't here. I'm really quiet (that's just how I am) and it's been raining really badly here today. One of them laughed and said something like, if Burberry was dying in a flood, she wouldn't say anything, she would just silently die. Or something like that. I know that's far from the worst thing that has been said about people, I just wasn't expecting it. I don't want to care about what she says about me, it's just really hard to be sitting in your own room that you pay to live in and have to hear someone making fun of you. And there's nothing wrong with me or how quiet I am. We've only been living here a week and a half.

I don't want to confront her because I have to live here until at least December and I don't want it to be awkward. And I just don't even want to talk to her. But I just don't want to be around someone who doesn't accept me. Do I just pretend I didn't hear? What if she says more things like this?

Making fun of you for being the quiet type doesnt really sound very harsh.

And considering you are female, I would think that a godsend.

Quiet and Female - you are a rare creature ;)

Right on. Remember that. :sunny: For me, it is is easier said than done.

I have people that love me but when they make fun of me, I am really sensitive to it and tend to shut down or lash out, but I am working on not reacting in either manner. I am sure, a little bit more confident might help me in that department.

I also agree your personality of being quiet is most likely
    to many people.

I would say, let it slide ....

by allowing these insults - the bullies point is being justified.

    tell her politely otherwise.

I would also like to point out if one did drown in a flood, or by any other means, one wouldnt be able to say anything anyway as your lungs would be full of water

That isn't so bad. I'm quiet as well and when people say I'm quiet I don't take it as a compliment or an insult.

I wish more people were quiet, things would work a lot better if more people just stfu and got on with life instead of jibber-jabber been

If you've only just met them then I doubt it was that negative....

you don't need to confront her, it was just a joke but not meant to harm you, my family talks/joke about each other behind their backs, nothing taken serious.

Do you consider her a friend? if not just ignore her, as long as she not being rude to you directly or indirectly.

  11. I wish you'd said what kind of tone it was said in! It's very difficult to comment when the actual words don't mean a lot. It could equally have been derogatory as complementary. ;)

You're reading waaaaay to much into this. Being hyper sensitive is no way to go through life.

My comment was a response to the OP post, not yours.

But yeah, that would have been the best thing to do. :)
